    Greetings to all,
As the heading states I am a proud new owner of a fine yellow 5th gen( 6500 miles, pc2,k&n, Micron exhaust, ZG DB ).I have just a few questions.....are the custom maps for pc2, or am I sol and need to get a new unit.My motorcycle "guy" strongly suggests the unit from Dobeck (TFI)...any feedback?
-- Was there a black 5th gen in the U.S.?
-- Considering new Gold Valves and springs up front..feedback? As for the rear...$1100 for new shock is ..well..nuts..it costs a quarter of what I paid....sorry divorced, mortgage, child support..I have to be a little practical.
-- Anyhow love the bike so far....one last thing....Sargent or Corbin saddle.I have a Corbin on my 1990 FJ1200 and its the nuts.I did see that Sargent allows you to use the rear cowl for storage....screw a passenger....they just slow me down.
-- I had trouble sorting through posts to find these answers...so links would be greatly appreciated by a newbie.

Welcome aboard! Congrats on your new yellow girlfriend.

There should be custom maps still avail for the PCII, but I do not know where to get them.
Very good things are said about the front suspension upgrades.
I have the Sargent 2 piece and love every second I ride with it. Having the extra space under the cowl is very cool. I even leave my tank bag at home alot of the time.

She is a beauty.I was getting ready to buy and a buddy at the firehouse suggested the VFR.Originally I was going to get a 2003 Kawy ZZR1200( a sheer monster and beauty in it's own right) , but at 5'9" it was too much of a reach for me.It was like riding in a missile, at 180lbs. it steered like one as well.I left it behind in sad spirits. I tried the VFR and , lo and behold, it fit and was fast enough for my needs( okay, want as well.....kookalooo!!!!!) The problem is.....not doing every add on and mod under the sun.....just paid off the credit cards(I am NOT going back to them)." Patience young Jedi".
I did see a map for the 2000-2001 , but didn't know if it was custom or powerc's own blend. I have the Micron, as I said before, love the sound and response, but it rides high up....anyone have the micron and still have saddle bags?If so....I am taking suggestions..."operators are standing by".
And thanks for the welcome... This forum and the Yahoo FJ group have been the best I have found.

Hey Pyro. Welcome to the forum.

I have 5th Gen Yellow as well. They didn't come in black, as far as I'm aware.

I have a Corbin seat as well, which I like. Never been on a Sargent, so can't comment on that. But if you like your previous one, no reason why one on the Viffer wouldn't be the same.

If you're thinking Race Tech up front, keep in mind they can also rebuild your rear shock. (Mine is being done this winter). As a rough estimate, around $300. Inevitably it will be more, but a far cry from the $1,000.

    Good luck.

Where are the pics of this "alleged" bike? It sounds like you got a pretty good deal on a very reliable bike with very low mileage. She should keep you happy for many years to come despite the fact that it is yellow

    Regards,
    Rollin

No pics yet.I have the fairings off to flush the coolant, change the spark plugs etc.The rear cowl is painted black.the first owner dropped it and had it painted at a shop, but it still has a little orange peel up close.I want to go all stock.By the way..did or did not Honda release a gloss black( I know about the matte black) VFR somewhere? I would love to get a hand on that rear cowl.I could swear I heard they released one in '99.

They did release a black VFR but for other countries such as canada and europe. You can look up ebay for black fairings or if you're desperate enough see if there's a british motorcycle parts shop.

Welcome!! Regarding the rear shock, you can also add one from a 929. I just did this and spent ~$40 total including shipping from ebay to get adual adjustable shock. You need to modify the bracket, which you may be able to do youself (took me a few hours with grinder and gas welder). Money better spent than rebuilding the stock rear shock. From what I read, it's about the same spring rate as the stock VFR, which is a bit soft for me. I'm planning on having both the forks and 929 shock redone over the winter as well.

Welcome fellow 5th genner - I have a PCII also. My understanding is that you can buy a conversion cable to usb for it an go to get a custom map at a shop that does that work. - I bought the cable, but mine runs so good, I have been in a mostly "just ride it" mode, so I havent been up to pay bucks at the tune it shop.

I am a Corbin fan also, no complains about the one on my 5th gen. Some day though I would like to try the Sargent.

    MD

    Good luck,
    MD
