Hello everyone, My 87VFR 700F2 has had some issues with one of the tail running lights lately. Its not the lamp already past that point. so i took off all of my fairings today to trace back the wires to the harness.. So first i checked for voltage at the tail light and i have no running light voltage at the light. So i turned my multi to continuity to find the right harness at the wiring harnsess under the left inner fairing found the orange wire and checked for voltage there Next traced that up to the left turn signal on the dash which im assuming is supposed to be illuminated while the bike is running but is out. only comes on when i turn the turn signal on. So at that point i Stopped( Due to the fact summer is ending and i dont like to work under lights.. The thing is and correct me if im wrong. Is when i took off my front lower fairing to work on the harness i had no lights. Had to disconnect the front signal lights to take off the fairing of course to get to the harness.. I guess my question is that.. Is the left hand side signal lights run off the same continuous series loop. where the + comes from the relay to the front signal light from the front signal light to the rear signal light from the rear signal light and to the dash light then back to the - feed. Sorry about the lenthy description.... thanks in advanced, monkey.
thanks for everyone's help with the issue. Finally figured it out on my own after a couple of nights testing the lights and such swapped some wires around to correct the issue. But now a new problem has arisen The same side i was previously talking about is lit now. But the brightness of the light is very low. Its barely bright enough to just see it during daylight but its half as bright as the right side running lights on the right side at night. Heres the trouble. first swapped wires around to get the circuit correctly wired. Now if i disconnect the rest of the lights the light returns to normal brightness. if i reconnect the light it gets twice as bright. I have about 10.5 volts DC at the rear light when the dash light and rear light are dim. If i swap the feed to bypass the first light all together and run only the rear lights both the dash and rear light are at the proper illumination. But if i reconnect the front light into the circuit the first light is twice as bright as all the other lights in the row. Is this a problem with the front running light or is it a bad ground connection. Anybody have any insight into this problem? thanks, monkeyman
lol no one responded and you thanked them love it but see now you learned something on your own isn't that the American way??
I think its awsome how nobody respoded to my question first off. Looks like ill be stoping for the next broken down 1st generation VFR on the side of the road really really soon. Cant wait to fly by beeping at them. thanks gentlemen for all your help.
