    Probably optimistic - I ran high 13s - low 14s on VF700 Sabre.

Expert rider who probably weighs 150 lbs (Cycle World tester), ideal conditions (perfectly flat, sticky dragstrip), multiple passes to get best ET, yes those times are very possible.*

*of course it could have been a "ringer" bike supplied to the mag, that stuff does happen.....

So it's "the worst V4 ever" just because they made it 50cc smaller to beat a stupid tariff?

Lezz see - um, test weight, 432lbs, rider weight 160 lbs, dyno test, 53.16 hp and 25.91 ft-lb torque (lol) and 12.66 at quarter mile. REALLY? Jeez - what did they do, use a slingshot to launch the little booger?

well lemme see the vf500 does weigh only 400 lbs with fluids in it ive checked on mine when it was stock. As far as the dyno numbers with KN, custom exhaust, good synth oil, and a modified air box i put down 63 whp on a local dyno back in 03. So yeah its very possible they actualy sandbagged those numbers. Esp if my big ole 230 lbs in full gear but can pilot the bike to a 7.8 sec 1/7th mile. This is my first bike yeah i did put almost 10k miles on it the first year but oh well im far from a ringer.
As you guys have stated the 700's have trouble getting out of the 13 sec range. And as the sabermag forum of old had posters who would be crowing at there dave dodge big bore v45 making a 12.2 1/4 mile run. The power to wieght ratio of the bike is the worst of the vf's. So in short your heavy, you think your faster than a 500 and you guys ate the hell out of there own cams. Making a bad name for all v4's.
I would still ride one over any harley but given the choice i would only get a vf1100 if i had to upgrade to another v4. But then we will get into debate of honda posting 10 sec 1/4 mile times for that bike. Or maybe the 700's just have crappy riders for the drag strip iono.

In the grand scheme of things I could care less about my old 700 since the engine ate itself. I'm just stating that with my slow ass reaction time high 13s was the best I could eke out. Oh yeah - I did low 12s with my old 4th gen. So I still find running high 12s from the 500 laughable. Mid to high 13s with an average rider maybe. (The 700 was heavier) I would give a half second quicker to a pro-ish rider. The bike is not about the drap strip anyway.

I have long since moved on from the gen 1's - not a dig to anybody that owns one but Honda really screwed that one up with the cams and oiling system (or the lack of one). Couldnt give me one of those to live with.

fwiw my 7.8 was on par with a 12 flat or high 11 sec pass. And i wasnt talking about the 4th gens, just the first but to be honest they could use a diet and some muscle as well.

Thanks for your replies, I wasn't tring to get anyone to bash other bikes. I just was wondering if the 500 realy would pull a 12 sec 1/4 mile. My friend in his mustang says he'll wax me. (he ran a 13.6 in the 1/4) But I'm to old for that crap now a days any ways.

if you've never ridden a vf500 you would be suprised about how quick they are. I bet a pro can pull a 12.67

Then my bike is definitely not running right! I don't think it's NEAR that performance level! Then again, it could be just that it's that smooth?

Personally, my daily rider is a 1984 V65 Sabre. It's fast, it's QUICK, and I have alot of respect for the bike. I recently bought 2 1984 VF500F's...one a project, the other a rider. I'm pleasantly surprised at how smooth the VF500F really is. My V65 Sabre is a beast, heavy, pulls your eyes back into the sockets when really getting on it. The Interceptor pulls nicely although you really don't notice how quick and agile it really is until you look down and notice you're at 10K RPM and screaming down the road.

At 10K RPM my Sabre is SCREAMING at me, but still pulling me higher and higher. The Interceptor, in my opinion, is a smooth operator. Kind of a "sleeper". I'm afraid that the Interceptor is going to nudge out my Sabre for "daily rider".
