I have an 86. I am the only owner. I love the bike and will probably never part with it. I bought it new at the end of 1986 and racked up over 90,000 miles when I took it off the road to do a little restoration. I need to replace some of the bodywork and the engine right now is completly apart, but reassemly starts next week. I converted the front end to F2 and have F2 wheels front and rear and it has a Fox shock. The engine internals were in awesome shape when we took it apart, so I would say these things are VERY reliable. Not the fastest thing on the road by today's standard, but a great bike still. Hope this helps. Dave

I don't have an F2 but I do have the 700F, as far as power....don't expect to be doing any spectacular wheel stands with it. Especially if your over 200Lbs, I push or pull 280 depending on the day & it has enough get up go to propel me in excess of 160(@ least thats what the speedo is reading, between 165-170 was tops). That said I let my 15 yo newphew take mine for a run over the weekend & he was doing some pretty decent wheelies with it he's around 150lbs. It will also run w/ my buddies Buell XB12 in the twisties & the straights, maybe not with as much authority but it runs none the less. I have 34,000 on mine & it is is running strong.

I just bought one at the beginning of my winter break from college
its a HUGE step up from my 82 450t Hawk definitely! I bought it with 35,000 miles on it and it sure seems to me like it can pull really good. punching it realy hard from idle in gear gives good acceleration all through the rpm band, but the nose still stays on the floor. i bet if I revved and dropped the clutch the front wheel would get some air but I'm not ready for that.

I have an 86 VFR700F2. had it since new. It runs great still it has 32000miles on it. I need to replace right rear exhaust header, it cracked last year right when I got my new vfr800f. she must have been pissed when she found out about the new girl in town.

Nice bike that 700f2, had one for 3 years, nice ride depending on what you're expecting, not top of the line, sheesh its 20 years old, but for the money and what you get, way hard to beat IMO. just do the fluids, check the tires take a hard look at the chain look at the battery and you should be good to go.

I still have an 87 VFR700 I bought in 1987. Its mostly the same as the 86.
Its a great bike. The power is not as great as today's bikes.
However, one thing to note is the Interceptors back in 86 and 87 were the bikes Honda raced. Not like the more touring oreinted versions produced later.
Wayne Rainey and Fred Merkel won the 1986 and 1987 AMA Superbike Championship on the VFR's 750 version. In my opinion this is one of the greatest bikes ever made. Its light, fast, great handling, and comfortable enough to do 700 mile days.
