Hey Borg, whilst any surgery is not good, I am so very glad to hear the rest of you is ok. When I saw you go over the edgev my heart was in my mouth. It was a great relief to see you on your feet so quickly.

Hope the op goes well. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

I think most of us should be getting home some time soon. The rest of the riding was okay, the road wasn't all that great actually after we left you. It would have been a lot better if we weren't missing part of the team but sometimes sh&t happens.

Borg, I'm so thankful that it wasn't worse, the potential for it to be really bad was there. Get your finger fixed up and get your bike fixed up and we'll meet up again and do it as a team.

    More tomorrow, bed time...

    Hey Jett.

Just walked in the door. If you are right handed, you can still flip the bird though. You just can't do it in stereo. Was nice riding with you for the time we did and was great meeting your brother too.

We talked this over a bit and collectivley we don't think you caused any of those marks on the road. And if we are correct, then there was at least two off road rights before you. And this was brand new asphalt. So there is an engineering problem that Dept of Hwys needs to address before something much worse happens. If you are able to supply me with some distances, I will jon anyone else on the ride in complaining to the Dept Hwys. That gravel on the roadway there is totally unneccessary and an easy fix

Your gear served you well today. Sorry about the need for surgery but you were up and about and we satisfied ourselves you were OK. I could certainly have been far worse for you.

FYI. My arse is so sore from that road and the speed bumps on Zero Ave coming home I can barely sit down.

I will give you a heads up when the wife and I come over.

Next year it will be an overnighter. Probably up to Campbell River, Gold River, then back down over to Port Alberni and Toffino and Uclulet the second day.

I will post up my pix tomorrow.

The rest of you...thanks for the ride. As always the company is unmatched.

The accident was a bitch...I'm glad your relatively OK. We all learned a little more today.

It was great to meet a few more local VFRW riders.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery borg!

While Raro and I sat and told our life stories (I still wonder about him and the Swedish midget acrobats), a highways contractor stopped by, asked what happened and took pictures. We suggested that the signage wasn't adequate and he kinda sorta agreed, but pointed out that this was a temporary chicane (not his word) built around a washout, and that the engineers were working on a way to make it straightish again. He took photos and wished us and Jett well.

That's actually some juicy info... I think Borg could use that to his benefit cause that was one freaky corner, especially considering it wasn't the first vehicle to land in that ditch.

    Jett.

I strongley agree with Jason here. Stand up and take note. Even though this may have been a temp fix, it must be safe. It was not. DOH or that contractor may be on the hook for fixing your bike...possibly for your injuries too. I can see them fighting any injury claim but if you are very reasonable about everything, I think you may find the other side may be willing to pay some repairs quite readily. Keep us in the loop.

Proud members of the "VFRW VanIsle 2009 Ride" need to know. You can still post the badge with your signature. You can become our official safety rep for next year.:laugh::laugh::rofl::caked:

Dammit here we go again. Blame Randy WTF.....I didn't put it there. I took evidentiary photographs to support his case. I suppose you think it is my faukt you hit that deer cause I didn't take out the sumbich myself when I was down there.;. I offered a helping hand. I told Borg to use the other hand to flip the bird. I am all for retraining those who become disabled.

With regards to the surgery, it will not be happening until Monday. I was at the hospital from 2PM til 10PM yesterday. I thought i was going in for surgery but it turned out to be a consultation only. Pissed me off cause the emerg dr that referred me to the specialist told me not to have any meals after 9AM.

Anyway, I finally see the specialist and he sends me fore more x rays then ct scan. He confirmed the fracture in my middle finger but he also found a torn ligament on my thumb and possible dislocation of my wrist.

I am now scheduled for surgery for the coming Monday and will be off for EIGHT WEEKS!

I do feel fortunate to come out of this with relatively minor injuries.
Having said that, my ego has suffered a most devastating blow....but it too will recover.

I am not used to be at this end of any kind of a collision.

My last collision was in the winter of 1989, that's 20 yrs of drving/riding which include 18 yrs of operating company vehicles in all manners of situations, even disobeying all traffic laws when safe just to be able to see but not be seen.

So knock on wood, this will do me for the next 20 yrs.

I'd be happy to be the official safety officer for next years VI ride.

    Cheers!
