    This is my first bike and was wondering what the oil consuption should be at 30,000 miles. But since this is my first bike it does not come with an instruction manual. I have put the bike on the side kick stand when I read the oil levels, is this correct or should it be on the center stand? Over filling may be a reason I am loosing oil.

    I use Synthetic 10 W 40 Amsoil. I filled it up to the upper line on the eye glass about 500 miles ago and noticed it is near the low line now.

    The exhaust pipe is clean (no oil or oily feel, and since I am riding I really can't see if it is burning blue, but it definitely isnot blue when it is started cold).

    A performance engines something that just use a bit of oil and I have to be prepared to top up on occasion.

    I drive almost exclusively on the Highway with the bike running between 3500 and 5000 rpm at cruise, and No crazy stuff.

    You should not be using any oil. 30k is nothing on these motors if properly maintained. Check the oil level on the center stand on a level surface. Amsoil 10w40 is among the best so no worries there.

    For checking oil level, the sixth gen owners manual says to;

    1. Put the bike on the center stand
    2. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes
    3. Shut off the engine and wait a few minutes
    4. Check the sight glass and add oil to top fill line

    Kind of vague, but better than nothing!

    are you shure you filled it correctly at the first oil change?
    maybe you were low...to begin with.
    that much oil loss in such a short distance is odd.
    iv found some bikes will loose half a quart every 3k miles....
    also not showing any signs of burning...but, mysteriously loosing oil.
