helmet+glasses= discomfort?

I finally got my bike on the really road and rode it a few miles today. I had be testing it on the gravel road that last few days. The only real problem I am having is I wear glasses and I wear a helmet and I cant do both very easy. I do have contacts but alot of time I have a hard time wearing them. what does any other fellow helmet /glasses ride do!

 

Ahhhhh....I would be looking at finding another pair of glasses that are more comfortable with my helmet.

 

I always wear glasses when I ride and have had no comfort issues. Perhaps your helmet could be the culprit. I know that wearing glasses with a HJC helmet was a little easier than with my Shoei. But, neither were uncomfortable. And as said above...it could just be your glasses.

 

I wore my glasses with a HJC helmet no problems. Maybe smaller frames are needed?

I hate wearing glasses at any time but especially with a helmet. I do have Nike glasses that have the thin flex frames so they are a bit better. But they are pricey. I wear contacts about 99% of the time. Believe it or not, one contact for reading and the other for distance. My glasses are bi-focal. Sucks to get old

 

I used to wear my glasses while wearing my helmet. Worked great. Could see everything - the road, the GPS, the gauges, etc., etc.They were nice, with every conceivable option - graduated lenses, photo-gray, break proof frames (could tie them in knots), etc. Cost me over $400.00. And what did I do with them? Left them on the back of my seat for some dumb-ass reason at Mid-Ohio this past July, rode off, they fell off, and now I'm back to $15.00 drug store reading glasses, that provide the side benefit of giving me raging headaches. That was in July and I'm still kicking myself in the ass.

My optomotrist actually suggested this. Next time you get prescription glasses, take your helmet with you. My daughter thought I looked like dork walking around the office with my lid on, but it saved me a couple hundred bucks on a pair of prescription sunglasses I couldn't use the way I wanted.

 

I just bought a couple of new Shoei helmets and the foam in the helmet is actually designed to accomodate sunglasses. I had an Icon helmet before and it was a very tight fit with sunglasses which made them push down on your nose. The new Shoei is great.

 

My Arai has a groove between the pads that my frames slide right through. It's quite comfortable and wearing my glasses with it doesn't bother me at all. Not so for my HJC helmet. It's a chore to get them on with that helmet and they never stay where they need to be because the helmet pushes them around on my face.

 

The XR/RF1000 is great with my small/medium sized perscription glasses

Mind I did have problems at first with an earlier AXO helmet in '03 with very thin flexable titanium framed glasses with bending causing an unnerving change in aspect ratio. The ratio change made the world to look skinny and tall but all was good after changing to a rigid but still light thin frame. :smile:

 

Even though they are not as safe as normal helmets you may want to consider trying a modular helmet. With the front flipped up it is much easier to get your glasses in a comfortable position before flipping the front back down. The other options is Lasik surgery :biggrin:
