    Hiya guys,

I just registered after finding a bunch of posts here in Google and whatnot, so I figured I'd come and checkit out in person.

I'm a proud new owner of a 1986 VF1000R basket case. Meaning the bike is apart in boxes and the oly thing thats assembled is the engine in the frame.

The guy I got it from bought new suspension setups for the front and the rear.. he was going to put it all back together and upgrade it to later model hardware.
For the front, he has a complete forks, wheel, brakes, triples, controls, etc from a Kawasaki ZX-7RR he was going to use. I have not even started working on this bike yet (spent 14 hours in the truck getting it yesterday), so I'm not sure if this will even work.
For the rear, he has a rear swingarm from a 954RR and a wheel from a 929RR.. again, not sure of this will work yet.

My first order of business is getting the engine out of the frame, getting the frame on a table and start mocking it up. I'm a pretty good welder, and my friend is a very good TIG welder, so some fabrication is not going to bother me. I just want it to be safe. I figure I can get a 190 tire on the back and a 120 on the front.

The carbs have a stage 1 jet kit in them and the guy said he had .015" taken off the heads to boost compression. I personally doubt that .015 is enough to make a difference.. He also had somebody machine the flywheel or whatever has the ign pickup tits on them and had them advanced 4*.. not sure on this yet either. I'm just going by what he told me. Everything else is stock.

So anyway, this is my new project.. I hope I can get some good info here.

    Thanks!

    Chuck

    Ahhhh,

what makes you confident that the basis of the project-- the engine/transmission-- is any good?? Optimism ?

If having a bike you can ride anytime soon is important, consider selling the parts and buying a running bike, even it it's not a Honda.

There are tons of decent, running, modern bikes on the market that don't need to be Frankensteined together.
