I was really mad that Honda didnt update the VFR for 07.. A different paint scheme ? The dark red sucks , even my wife says its ugly and that she would rather have the 98 red as it says SEXY/FAST to her.. I was hoping that Honda would have done away with the VTEC CRAP and gave us back the gear driven cams ...I guess I will have to keep my 5th gen as to me its the best VFR ... What? My wish list.. New VFR with gear driven cams , 10 more horse power, V4 reliability, sexy red paint....

If honda would listen to VFR owners they would be surprised at how many wont buy a 6th gen and plan on riding the 5th gen or just go to another brand because of no new VFR....BIG write up about it on VFRdiscussion.com
where i am a member also...Honda put all its money into the squid machine the cbr600rr , 118hp , lite weight , but after 50 miles on it you need to get your spine adjusted.....

Thanks for letting me vent, ...anyone besides me dissapointed at Honda?

Na, haha Honda went down hill starting at 98, 4th gen Best IMHO :) Hey all good but yes, agree Honda made a wrong turn. at the least they should make a true sport model and one for the touring remember mr RC45? and the 4 gen, great combo if you ask me, but then no one has :p Guess it's up to us to make our bikes what we want good thing they do it all very well huh? Maybe in 08 when the 800cc Motogp bikes come out we'll see a trickle down effect.

when they changed from gear driven cams that imho was the beginning of the end of good judgement on their part.

    800 Moto GP VFR

    I'll buy a 800 Moto GP based VFR . If they can't give us that, lose 30 lbs,lose V-tech, & gain 20hp.

Still a great machine, and easier (and cheaper) to set valves than Ducati. Plus you don't have to tolerate a Ducatisto's BS.

Yeah, Ducati valve adjustment is every 3,000-5,000 miles ....I have owned 4 different Honda interceptors over the years.. I put over 50,000 on every one of them..I always have liked the cam gear whine and the gear driven cams are very reliable ... I dont need a 160hp at the crank because you cant use it unless you race on the track.
My dream machine is the HONDA , NR750/ 32valve/oval pistons, god Iam drooling like homer simpson, but the price tag is out of my range as a used one runs between $45,000- and a mint is $60,000.... I truly believe that honda made a big mistake by going back to cam chains and the VTEC gimmik on the VFR...The VTEC may be great for cars but not motorcycles...

Agree, not sure what Honda was thinking. in simple form would like to see the VFR 50lbs lighter, with a brake system off the RC51, updated legs front and rear, like whats on the RC51 1000rr 600rr. 120-30hp to the ground would be just about right in my book. and in keeping the egos were one could make it more get down or up for the long haul. Bring back the gear drive.and keep the SSSA Oh did I mention 999cc would be great too.

I guess you must be new to the mcycle world or you Know about the Interceptor/VFR heritage...The 1983 VF750F was the first true sportbike as it broke new ground .Then there was the tarrif buster 1984 VF700F,then the mold was recast for 1986 and we recieved the 1986 VFR750F with fuul body work ,better brakes, suspension, and an all new engine that had more HP and made a weird whining noise due to the gear driven cams..The gear driven cams became the signerature of the VFR/INTERCEPTOR later to be joined by the single sided swingarm..

The Interceptor went thru minor changes until 1998 when Honda took a gamble and totaly revamped the VFR with an all new motor/ styling and even threw in EFI ..The 98-01 models had very minor differences .
Honda decided a change in styling and motor was due for 2002 , so they added something useless called VTEC and got rid of the gear driven cams for cam chains , and under seat exhaust. By the way Honda cant make a cam chain tensioner wort a crap... gear driven cams = reliability and longevity for the engine ..

I belong to another VFR site and there are many people who have had to already change out cam chain tensioners on thier 2001-2005 VFR at 20,000 miles.Ever hear of having to change gears on a gear driven cam VFR? Dont think so.....

New? Ha! What does new have to do with it? I know what the VFR is about and where it all started and I too frequent VFRD (which is down right now by the way). Doesn't matter though. You guys sound like every other Internet expert out there. Name a forum and you can find someone griping just like people do here.

All this whining everyone does is no different than the whining I see on other forums for other brands of motorcycles and cars. There are people whining on Nissan Titan forums about "weak struts". I say, stop riding through 1 foot deep potholes. You bought a half ton truck, not a Baja 1000 4x4.

All of the whining on that forum sounds no different than the opinions on here about why they think chains suck instead of gears, VTEC and anything else people can whine about. You guys aren't experts and you think think Honda is here to serve only the U.S. customers. It's a world wide market and only 1000 VFR's are sold a year in the U.S. You guys are wishing for an expensive bike with all the things you want on it or wish it still had. If you don't like the 6th gen, go buy a 5th gen. If you don't like Honda's decisions, sell it and buy another model or brand.

You guys act like Honda canceled the bike. Wait until that happens. It happened to the XX, it will eventually happen to the RC51. At 1000 bikes a year, it's just a matter of time. There isn't a lot you can do to the bike without raising the price significantly and you can't do that either since the ones that sell now are sold so far below MSRP.

The bike runs fine. Go ride.

Gota laugh, you're right ,seems there is what you call a lot of whinning in a lot of forums all over, it's just not here, think it might have to do with people being allowed to voice their opion is all. I also belive its not so much whinning as it's not coming across to me as being a Complainant, more of a Gal darn it thing, we all do it wether it be the toaster or an electric tooth brush or a helicopter, it's not a perfect world. Though some might make an issue out of something, and there I say if you don't like it change it. Be it Brands or a part.
I too use to visit VFRD site, jury still out if I'll go back, to many 5-6th gen folks thinking their sheit is better than the rest IMO. I don't see it the way you do which is just fine, you're allowed your views, one of the great things about this great country called freedom of speach. I do ride mine amd I mean ride, the things I don't care for I fix or work around to make it what I like. Biggest reason I own a 97 VFR, best bang in the VFR lot IMO, so till something else that's better comes along I'm riding what I have, and enjoy every minute of it, nothing wrong with expressing yourself out loud here in what you'd like to see.
Also I don't belive no one here is whinning at Honda other wise they wouldn't be here in the first place. They know how good they got it, can't blame em thou if we want it a tad better. we're spoiled brats :)

Being a owner of a vfr from 2002 (yes a vtec engine) and reading all that
whining about what honda should do with next years model : 30 kg lighter
20-30 hp extra, and certaintly not a vtec engine i feel i have to defend the vtec. Ok for starters this is my first vfr so i have not had the pleasure of riding a vfr pre 2002 ( poor old me ) but am only speaking from personal experience riding with a vtec engine. Sure i have also thought about what the bike would be with more hp lighter etc. because here in Holland like most places in the world is all the talk about bikes with 150+ hp.
Being september and luckily still expierencing summer weather here,me and
a few mates ride almost every sunday (400-500 km) and normaly one evening
during the week 2 hrs . My mates own a honda fire blade, a honda SP2 and a
yamaha R6 (each bike is lighter and with more power ) sundays are days for
touring , enjoying the scenery, so speed is around 80-100 kph no problem
for the vfr.During the week on certain roads we ride 200 kph +, sure the fire blade and sp2 get there a bit quicker than me but seeing i ride a (according to some ) a fat, low powered piece of crap with a god forsaken vtec engine,
not that much. The point iam trying to make is this : maybe honda should listen to suggestions , and what your preference is, 1st gen or 6th gen, think
about the positives. A great looking bike , handles like a dream, comfatable, and more than enough power for the average rider.

greetings from Holland and a happy vtec owner.

Vtec or other wise..VFR's rule

Now back to the whinning ok? :)

I too am a happy V-TEC owner. While I understand the concerns about reliability, the 2002-2006 model has not had any significant problems in that area. I am also dissappointed that Mother Honda did not do an update to the bike. As a fan of the VFR, I want to see the bike make progress and not become stagnant. I would like to eventually trade my 02 in on a newer model THAT HAS BEEN IMPROVED. Not that I am unhappy with my 02. My wish list would be to make the bike 20lbs lighter, add 20 hp and improve the stock suspension(I forgot to add the seat needs changing too  ). These improvements can be made without increasing the cost of the bike ANY SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT. As it stands, the bike is virtually unchanged from 02 (all the changes so far are minor), yet the price has gone up by around $3k. I would pay that $3k and maybe a little bit more FOR AN UPDATED BIKE. Now, if you would like me to stop whining, too bad. Move to Iran where you don't have freedom of speech.

PS. I am not being sarcastic ,but you might want to check your ground wires on your bikes system where they come together .I believe its a connector near the headlight or around there ,as they have been known to get hot and melt/catch fire...source of info/ VFRclub/VFRD/sportbikeworld/. Heck I have a 5th gen and I still checked mine...

Hey! I ride a 98! ;) I actually remember looking at a VFR in 95 or 96 at the dealer and the mech there told me how great there were and how they sounded with aftermarket pipe. But, I remember I didn't like the way the rear signals looked. In 98, I liked the changed lines, the FI, and still got the same sound and reliability. I'm not crazy about the big honking turn signal lenses on the front but I have gotten used to them... I also feel like the 98-01 looks meaner from the front. The latest generation looks sweet from the side, but I can't get used to the front view. It's something about the lights I think...

All I got to say is go ride Kawaskis if you think Honda is bad. Hell, the Concourse just got a make over and the old one was around for 20 years! Be realistic folks. That's all I'm saying.

www.motorcycledaily.com has a list of new Kawi models. Even the KLR has been revamped. Another 20 year bike with minimal changes and it works great!
