Strange...when I start off on my VFR and keep the revs below 4k, it takes off smooth. But, when I start off with revs above about 4k, the bike "jumps" ahead as I let out the clutch. Like it grabs and lets go and then grabs.

Something with the plates I'm assuming?

    Advice? Thanks!

Well, assuming your clutch is properly bleed/maintained....I would say it sounds like warped/worn drive/friction places. Pull them all out, inspect them, replace with new drive & friction, and put new springs in. Bleed system.

Having previously bled my '83 VF, the clutch lever feels firm, so it seems there isn't any air in the line.

What kind of abuse would cause the plates to warp or get worn? I bought the bike used.

Several reasons, a few off the top of my head are: Brake torqueing burnouts, excessive slipping of the clutch (especially from newbs learning to use a clutch), hard launches thru drag race type riding.

Ok, that totally might have happened - I am the third owner. Off to the dealer I go for some parts!
