Hello to everyone, I just bought my first vfr 2005 stock with 11xxx miles. I'm new to this forum and so far am really impressed by the site and the friendly people.

Now as I was saying, after ridding my vfr and parking it in the garage I smell a burning smell coming from under the seat on the right side of the motorcycle. It almost smells like plastic melting or evening burning. My first idea was perhaps a wire or plastic piece is against a part of the exhaust which is causing it to burn. It also seems the longer and harder I ride the bike the more prominent the smell is. The previous owner was very meticulous and kept up on all of the recommended services and oil changes. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated thanks for your time-Wollein

check your R/R and the wires leading to it...Make sure all plugs leading to th R/R are firmly seated and no yellowing of the plastic is apparent, while you are at it pack all connections with dialectric gel.

Keep this in mind as well. If the previous owner put on any genuine Honda parts (metal only). When shipped, there is an oily film on them called cosmeline which prevents the metal from corrosion or oxidizing. The film burns off when heated (from the engine). It produces a smell as you are describing, being almost like plastic burning. There is a strong possibility that this is the cause of the smell, but just in case....have your dealer take look. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck:thumbsup:

Check to make sure that all the recalls for the bike have been completed. There have been some wiring problems with the VFR's and there are fixes for them. Call your local Honda shop, give them your VIN, and they will be able to tell you if there are any recalls that have not been completed yet.
