I bought my 84' 500 about three years ago. In that time I have only been able to ride the bike for about 5 months. It has been one thing after another and I have sunk way to much money into this bike. The bike is currently back in the shop for a coolant leak coupled with an overheating issue and my coolant fan stopped working.

I bought the bike in great condition for $1,500 and have sunk over $2,000 into her. I'm not really sure where to go from here, but the bike is worthless to me if it's always in the shop.

Here is a list of everything I did to it over the last three years and she is still not running right.

    Carb clean and rebuild
    Ignition coil
    Plugs
    Wires
    Valve adjustment
    Multiple oil changes
    Tires
    Brakes
    Petcock
    Lined the gas tank
    Fuel pump
    Crank Case Seal
    Countershaft Seal
    Sprockets
    Chain
    Thermostat
    Cooling fan
    Battery
    Starter Solenoid
    Front Turn signals
    Right mirror
    Headlight

Well... at least she CAN be worked on. All of us with computers, ECU's and such are gonna be in pain when they start going belly up in 20yrs. She deserves to go on but I feel your pain and empty wallet.

Well, I think I made the decision to put her up on craigslist. Supposedly, the bike will be all fixed this weekend. Really at this point I want to believe it will be good to go, but I have a feeling something else will break in a month or two.

Cosmetically the bike is in good condition and with all the money I dumped into it, I'm hoping to get around $1500, but I'm not sure.

Well I finally got the bike back after two months only to be told that they think my timing is off. The bike has always been on the loud side (motor wise) but they are a little concerned it is too loud. She run, drives and seems to be ok.

Going to get rid of this thing, way to much money in her to do anything else. If anyone is interested PM me. Looking to get $1,200 for her... With the cost of the bike I have over $3500 wrapped up in this bike. Supposedly with for $300 she'll be 100% fixed and reliable as ever. It also comes with two tank bags, luggage rack, extra mirrors, turn signals, manual and more goodies. I also have a new clutch basket and full clutch kit I plan on installing this weekend.
