What's the largest rear tire I can use on an 85 VF700F? Also what type of tire do you recommend?

Do you think I could fit a 150/60-18 or is that too big for the stock rim?

I think 140/80 is the correct size

Well I know that 130/80-18 is the original tire size but I'm looking to put a wider tire on the stock rim when I go to replace it. I would like to put a 150/70-18 but I don't know if it would be too wide for the stock rim. I really want a wider rear tire but with a baby on the way I don't have the money to do a CBR swap.

    Too much

A 150 is too much.If you would like I have 150 on an F2 wheel ,I will take a picture of and you can do the visual yourself of what it will look like pinched in an inch.

So is a 140 okay or should I just stick with the stock 130?

A 140 will probably be ok, but I wouldn't push more than that with the stock wheel. To go bigger you need to change the wheel to something else.

And from what I've read on this forum I can't get any other rear wheel unless I use the parts you make correct Jamie?

What I make is one option. The nice part about it is that I've done all of the homework already so you can be sure that it's right and will fit up without any issues. Keep in mind that the swingarm is not the limiting factor, it's the chain. Since it's difficult (and expensive) to move the location of the chain you can only run a 160 rear tire. A 170 will also fit using an F2 wheel but isn't any wider, just taller.

A 160 tire would be more than big enough for the riding I do. Is there any wheel upgrade options that would allow me to change only the wheel even if its just slightly larger.

The CBR600F2 wheel is pretty easy to fit. I've got a kit available that makes it a snap. Check out http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/v4section.html#wheelswap for more info on this if you are interested.

I have had a 160 on mine, had to notch the chain guard but I do not recommend it.
A 140 is the way to go on a stock wheel.

Curious. A 160 is not really that wide, you should not have had any issues with the chain guard at all. I'm assuming it was on the stock Ø18in wheel?
