I'm thinking of making my VFR into a bit of a pseudo track star - my Tiger does all the long haul real work anyway. Nothing serious as I'm not exactly a racer (and yes, I know that there are better track bikes out there, but hell, you work with what you've got, right?), but basically trying to lighten it up up a bit, lose the passenger pegs/centerstand, lighter slip on, etc. Then I'll hit a track school for a couple days. What I'm wondering is, does anyone know anything about reasonably priced light wheels that will bolt on? Much thanks, Scott
Scott: Have you had any suspension work done? If not, that is number one. Number two would be upgraded brake pads and steel braided brake lines. Number 3, if you are running sport touring tires, dump them and get Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's. You already said it, the VFR is what it is. Trying to lighten it makes zero sense at this stage in the game. Your on the right track (pun intended) with professional training. Training and the few mods above are all thats needed if you think you are going to get serious about track days. Besides, if you don't know how to brake properly on the track, what are lighter wheels going to do? Nothing becasue the process is whats important. If you brake like crap now, then all you'll d with lighter wheels is brake like crap...with lighter wheels. The extreme mods do nothing until you fully understand the process. My 2 cents. BZ
Don't think you will find a set cheap. I would not worry about the rims, just have fun and enjoy. If you want to quicken up the steering a bit look into a 19mm tail riser.
Thanks for all the advice, but I believe what I asked about was wheel choices. No, there are currently no other suspension mods, yes, that is on the list, yes, I am aware of the usefulness of professional training (and it wouldn't be my first, just first on that bike) and yes, I would still like to consider wheels. Apologies if that wasn't clear.
These are the only aftermarket, bolt on wheels I've seen for the VFR. Only $2450 for the set. CARROZZERIA USA INC - MOTORCYCLE AFTERMARKET WHEEL MANUFACTURE MAKERS OF THE TRI-R VSTAR V7R FORGED WHEELS HONDA VFR800 VFR
Yep, I spoke directly to Blackstone Tek and a couple others, the CARROZZERIA was the only ones I found also. CARROZZERIA USA INC - MOTORCYCLE AFTERMARKET WHEEL MANUFACTURE MAKERS OF THE TRI-R VSTAR V7R FORGED WHEELS HONDA VFR800 VFR
Hmm... now that's interesting. Immensely difficult, but interesting. Aw well, time isn't really a factor. Maybe I'll scour the garage sales and swap meets and cross my fingers. Cheers, and thanks for the help.
That's the bike off the Carrozzeria web site. Those wheels are so pretty they ma-ma-ma-make my eyes rain. KC-10 FE out... lane: :usa2:
Well, the RC30 used an 18" rear wheel so you probably don't want one of those. I think Carrozzeria will sell you their hub adapter for around $800. Then you can use an aftermarket Ducati rear wheel and CBR600F4 front wheel. All the major aftermarket wheel manufacturers make a Ducati rear and F4 front. Expect to spend around $3000 and you're good to go.
