    Finally got the carbs on

Well after a few months of other projects getting in the way I finally got the new carbs on. I had to get new boots because the old ones were just too hard. They still didnt want to go on with the new boots, and my heat gun was locked up in the building im rehabbing, so I put the boots in my toaster oven for a few minutes to heat them up. The heat plus a touch of WD40 and the carbs popped right on with minimal effort. Now tonight to try starting it and see what happens......

Short the black & black/blue wire at the relay, this will start the fuel pump when the ignition is on. The red or yellow wire goes to the ignition unit & energizes the pump when the motor is turning over.

Consider replacing the fuel pump relay with a standard 4 prong automotive relay. I've seen this relay & fuel pump fail on a few vfr & magnas.

so i couldnt get the fuel pump to work, Im not even sure its a honda fuel pump. and there are two random spliced wires connecting it. the hose that is supposed to run from the carbs to the pump has also been spliced at some point so it was way to short. I took a fuel filter that i had and used it as a really small fuel bottle. I just wanted to see if i could get any ignition, there is no coolant yet. So, I clicked my screwdriver key, pressed the button and thump thump. I heard a few signs of ignition and that was enough for me to know that i can start working on the rest of it and it will run when im done. So, next steps, clean and line fuel tank, reattatch fuel pump in some fasion, fix leak in cooling system and see if it fires up when put back together. if it does, then rebuild fork, brakes, clutch, and rear shock. add two non flat tires and see if it drives

I'm replacing my stock fuel pump with an aftermarket solid state type. They were popular on air cooled volkswagens and older fiat cars. Made by facet and empi (?).

The stock fuel pump has contacts (think points on a distributor cap) that wear out. If the pump gets dirty or gummy the contacts stick and fuel pump doesn't work. Might be worthwhile to pop off the plastic cap on the fuel pump and clean the moving parts.

    Good Luck!

I managed to get the pump working by shorting it to two wires that are just hanging out under the seat. Im not sure what the wires connect to but its what the PO had the fuel pump wired to. I filled the carbs and got it to run for a second and shut it off. Still no coolant, so cant let it run. At least I know it starts.....and actually sounded really good for the second it ran. If anyone has a picture of the orriginal fuel pump and its location that would be great. I also need to figure out where the original fuel pump was wired so I can get it wired correctly.

I do actually have one, I can figure out the wireing from that, but there was no real clear picture of how the fuel pump was laid out.

Hey Tourist, I'm not at home but the pump's stock location is on the left (drivers side) mounted to the subframe towards the rear near the overflow bottle by way of 2 little flat pronged peices that hold onto the rubber holder the pump is supposed to go in.

    Hope this helps.

I did find some pictures that lead me to belive that i have the stock pump, but it was just zip tied to some wires near the overflow bottle. The fuel line was also some random line that is way to thick and clamped down to sortof kinda hold fuel but not really well lol.
