that's because you never, or hardly ever, meet the ones that went down hard without a helmet, they aren't meeting anyone. Well, they are meeting thier maker:smile:

Right you are, Spike! When I lost my 4th gen, I crashed wearing full gear.
Had I not been wearing a helmet, I figure if the impact didn't kill me, I probably would've been run over by one of the 10+ truckers and campers who rolled by me while I was on the side of the road. (Thanks again for stopping to help, toolbags).
Since the helmet did it's job and my brain still sort of worked, I was able to roll out of the road quickly before getting run over.
The Sheriff's Deputy mentioned that I was the only MC crash that season not to leave the scene via helicopter or bodybag, mainly because I was the only one sporting a helmet.

I recently spend a couple weeks in souther Michigan visiting family. I noticed that everyone wore a helmet, but virtually no one wore any other protective gear. This was true across the board; cruisers, sport-bikers, dual-sport, whatever... WTF????

I recently stopped in a Triumph/Ducati/Aprilla/Augusta dealer. Was looking for some pants for my daughter. They had a wall of helmets, rows of jackets, bikes everywhere, and four pair of pants. Yes, 4. Thought maybe I missed something, so asked the sales-guy where the pants were. "Oh, no one really wears those so we don't stock them". WTF, are you f'n kidding me? I left. (And I mean NO pants, not leather, textile, chaps, whatever).

Ottoman - Hope your brother in law is OK.

I always think it strange when you see the guys, usaually guys and in the teens 20's, with the $600 Arai, painted like thier favorite racer, and then that's it, no gloves, no jacket, no pants, no boots, just T-shirt, shorts and sneakers. I am just like, OK, so you spent all that $$ on a helmet, but you didn't buy a jacket or gloves, what exactly do you think will happen to you in a crash, your head will be put on a different body??

    Interesting thoughts.

Iv been thinking about more gear than a helmet lately. (dont wear shorts).

but then again im didnt even buy the helmet that i am wearing. no way i can afford a $350 jacket.

Iv got lether jackets, but arnt really "gear" type, and i cannot stand the heat of those jackets, (epilepsy thing.)
