Hello everyone. I have a New To Me 93 VFR that just replaced my previous 93 that was recently wrecked by my brother in law. I just took the new bike out for about a 15 minute ride and when I got home and went to take the seat cowl off the frankenbolts were very hot. I know that 3rd Gens tend to produce alot of heat but don't ever remember the frankenbolts on my previous 3rd Gen ever getting hot like that. Can anyone confirm whether this is normal or not. I know that the frame will absorb some of the engine heat but it just seems like the frame on the new bike is getting much hotter to the touch than my previous bike. Can some of you 3rd Gen owners chime in and provide some input? Am I being paranoid or is what I am describing normal. It was about 75 degrees when I took the bike out and everywhere I touched on the frame was pretty hot even near the tail lights.

    Regards,
    Rollin

    Gen 3

I must say my gen 3 was wildy hot at the frame, but my other two bikes don't come in contact with my legs like gen3 frame. It did cause me to check the other two and heat in the frames is the norm......maybe just worried too much about new bike? Not trying to be butthead but maybe a little human nature to be worried?

I swapped the R/R today with the upgraded unit from my old 3rd Gen and took the bike out for about 30 minutes and no more hot frankenbolts. The subframe also seems to be much cooler than with the stock R/R. Just to be safe I think I am gonna change out the harness as well.

you do have the parts at no cost to you...look at it this way you'll have both bikes together...as one...

Frankenbolts are VFR speak for the two bolts on either side of the seat cowl that secure the cowl down. Most VFRs have them. They stick out like the bolts in frankensteins neck. With all the R/R problems, someone should repurpose them as jumper cable terminals!
