Taller riders (6 gen) - to cut or to raise??

I have scoured about two dozen past threads and still don't know if we just have to live with helmet buffeting (I am 6,1 or 185cm) or if a Givi/Puig helps at all.

Some folks seem to think cutting is the way to go, as it directs the wind at your chest. Touring shields give nothing and just raise the risk of headshake.

Some touring shields also feel flimsy and make the bike look more 'mohecan'. But I even hear FJR riders complain, so are we better off cutting?

Also have a zerogravity sport touring windshield. Being 6'0" you do experience some buffeting. Just tilt your head down a few degrees. The sport touring windshield is much better than the stock windshield as far as wind buffeting is concerned.

For what it's worth, I have both a ZG on my '96 and a GIVI Touring on my '04.
I'm 5-11 and I definitely experience more buffeting with the ZG; it's well -designed and better than the stocker but the GIVI really does a great job of directing the wind up and over. With the GIVI at 75+ on the highway I don't even think about the wind. People say the touring shields are flimsier than stockers but I don't think so; I think it's just the result of it being taller: the same reason a long tree branch flexes more than a short branch.

I will add that, oddly enough, wearing earplugs really help to reduce the sensation of wind; I'm to the point now that I wear them all the time, even around town. The muting efect really allows me to focus on the ride and not the annoying wind whistle.

Cut. I'm 6' 1" and I cut mine down even with the fairing posts. Noise is dramatically reduced. The air comes in much lower and hits you more in the uppper chest than right at the bottom of your helmet. Try sticking your head up more while riding by standing up a few inches to get your helmet into the "clean" air and you will see what I mean. That is what its like with the windsheild cut.

Thanks - so is it realistic to hope that with a Puig (or ZG) at 60-70mph there will be a 50% or better reduction in buffeting at helmet level and maybe 10% reduction in noise? Or is that fantasy on anything other than a Goldwing?

My local dealer only has a Honda OEM High (5cm better than stock apparently) and Puig (the others all need ordering).

I have noticed on moto gp bikes that the crews are cutting slots in the windscreens on the upper sides to change the flo around the riders helmets.
