I am pleased to join this group. I am currently riding a 1986 Honda VFR750F in very good condition. The previous owner to really good care of it, oil change every 500 miles, etc. It came with the owner and service manuals, some spare parts and a maintenance log including all the oil & gas types he used. He might be as anal as I am.

I design and build high performance audio equipment for a living. I live and work in a 5000 square foot warehouse in Downtown Dallas. I plan to take some more exploratory trips to Southern New Mexico to find a place on a mountain I can move to.

I raced motocross and road race bikes in my youth. All the broken bones tell me what the weather is going to be like. My hobby is modifying/restoring cars and motorcycles. I have a lot more basket cases and projects than I do finished vehicles.

I have some 70’s Motocross and Enduro bikes; CZ and Huskies. A 1974 Ducati GT750, the love of my life and a 1979 Honda CBX I am turning into a Gentleman’s café racer. Scattered on shelves are the two stroke parts for a Suzuki 750 Water Buffalo and a Suzuki T500 bikes that will end up as road racers or café bikes.

    Best Regards,

    Dennis

Hi Dennis. Welcome to the group. You have taken posession of one of a good machine. I think you will find it quite enjoyable. I too raced MX when I was younger and enjoyed that immensly. To bad I don't have the time or money to continue in that sport. The VFR, in a way, takes the place of the mx. I won't be doing double jumps or leaping table tops with it, but it can cut some corners.

    Thanks for the replies

I raced MX back in the late 60s and early 70s. Before the days of the long travel suspensions. Back then I lived in Milwaukee and I even participated in the "development" of the Harley Davidson Italian 2 stroke Motocross bike. Was that a lost couse. I wished I could have talked Dick O'Brien out of one of the sprint road racers.

I am pumped about the 86 VFR, the engine is just Magic....if only the suspension was up to the same performance level. But, it's a runner and I have to force myself not ot turn it into a "project" until I get my Honda CBS or the Ducati 750GT finished. I geuess it;s a good thing to live and work in a 6000 sqaure feet warehouse. There's plenty of room for shelves and floor space for all the basket cases.

Hmmm, there was a really nice restored T500 in the local Craig's List for $2000or bid on. I was going to go look at it when the 86 VFR poped up on the list.

I appreciate the welcomes and look forward to all the help and advice I plan to ask for.

    Thanks,

    Gentleman's Cafe Racer

I think the 79 CBX will turn out pretty nice. I replaced the winpy forks with completer Honda CB900F front end (including instruments).

Dumped the Comstar wheels to convert to wire wheels using a Honda GL1000 front hub and a CB750F rear hub. They both bolt right in.

I have a classic bikini fariing and an early Honda type to choose from. Sourced early honda Stianless type fenders and a smaller taillight that will fit.

All I have left to do is to find time to have a custom Domiracer type seat made on a modified CBX seat base. Lace the wheels, make some rear sets. The CBS Sport kit rearsets are too rare and expensive. I still have to decide what to do for an exhasut system. The stock one is very heavy but it does make the six sound like a V-12. The aftermarket ones are pretty ugly.

Then I have to take everything apart. I fit everything to make sure everything fits, that way when I get everything powder coated and painted, I won't mess up the paint when I assemble it.

As long as I can force myself to keep my hands off the 86 VFR, I should get it done next year. I will be happy to post a few pictures. I spend most of the evening sourcing aftermarket parts for the 86, no a good sign.

It's been fun sourcing parts from other honda models to convert the bike
to a classic look and better performance. I even found a NIB A-Track Aluminum "racing" swingarm to go with the dual works performance shocks.

I think I will paint it a dark pearlescent silver color used on some German Cars.

Boy, I'll bet that's more than you wanted to know.

    Regards,

    Dennis
