Hello all, I had something very strange happen today when riding my 5th gen. I've only owned it for a little over a month and today was very hot. I rode for approx. 1.5 hours with no issue until I was stopped at an intersection waiting to turn. Just as I gave it a little gas to go through, the bike stalled out. I didn't think much of it as I have stalled it before - but this time it would not crank at all when I hit the starter button. It was completely dead - but had power as the LCD was displaying info. I pushed it into the parking lot of the gas station I was going to ( I was not out of gas ) and tried cranking it again with no luck. I made sure it was in neutral in case there was a problem with the sidestand switch - still no luck. When I turned the key on I could hear the fans turning but I did not hear the fuel pump come on. I let it sit for a few minutes to let the temperature come down and after the temp was at 99 I heard the fuel pump kick in, but it would not turn over at all. I figured at this point I'm getting gas so I bump started it with no problems and rode home with no incidents. After shutting off the bike at home I tried starting it again and it cranked and started as normal. The things that stood out to me were this. First - the temperature was reading 108 Celsius and second, the time was wrong. Frequently when driving in town on a hot day my bike will be around 100 Celsius. Does anyone know if there is some type of high temperature shut off? I don't see anything in the repair manual I have. I can't explain the wrong time except for an interruption in electric. Any thoughts? I read on here that the Regulator/Rectifier on the VFR's frequently fail, could this be symptoms of a faulty R/R? Any info you can provide would be much appreciated. Chris Breckenridge
My '98 once hit 124C when my fan blade was stuck in the shroud and couldn't spin. I'm guessing weak battery...or the R/R is starting to go. Good Luck!
