    A picture says a thousand words :)

I bought my bags used from Ebay, so I don't have all the wonderful mounting hardware/nuts/bolts. As I was trying to fit the racks on I thought maybe I can use the rack mounting plate as the Lic. plate holder. Only mod I made was drilling 2 holes on the rack mounting plate, then flipped the Lic. light over. The light is shining up. Maybe this mod is the norm already, I just don't know :caked:

Mounting the Lic. plate side ways, is that legal in CA? Here is one more picture.

If anyone want to know more about how I did it, just post here. Tomorrow after church I will pick up the right nuts and bolts (metric, right now I just put it together with what I have) and re-mount it. I can take more pictures as I'm doing so.

By the way, I'm new here  . Hi, everyone. Glad to be here

hi. welcome to the club. dunno about the legality of sideways mount in cali, but I doubt you'll get hassled about it. most of us have aftermarket pipes which are not legal but I don't know anyone who has ever gotten a ticket. I'd imagine the law just says the plate must be plainly visible and customs often mount them sideways so I bet you're okay.

Welcome to the VFR world. Everyone here is great and help each other out.
I just got a summons for having the fender eliminator kit .
The officer said that it was not visisble??? Maybe he needed glasses... Well after writing the summons he explained that the plate needs to be straight and not on an angle.
For your mod like Regi said, alot of customs do have it sideways but don't know if it's legal.

    Thanks for a warm welcome.

I will keep my plate this way until I get a ticket then

I'm too new at this, can someone tell me why a lot of people took out their fenders? Is it just a style thing? Does the fender work at all to begin with?

The stock fenders works fine. I took mine off simply because I didn't like the look of it. The only drawback is riding in the rain. The spray off the rear tire gets all over the back of the bike and rider. Since I live in NM, it's not that big of a deal here.

I have a competition werks fender elim kit on my 04 vfr. I did it because I didnt like the look of the huge mud flap that is stock::frown: mine is at an angle so hopefully i wont get a ticket for it. I see on choppers where people have their plates mounted up and down and off of the rear axel I would think as long as its visable it would be fine:confused:

DO you have a picture of the kit mounted? I couldn't fit the Lic. plate the right way between the stock pipes

The plate will fit between the stock pipes, just move it inward (toward the front of the bike a bit) Make yourself a small bracket to hang the plate from, or just run some small screws thru the plate and into the edge of the upper fender area. Did this on mine, looks great.

There are tons of harleys around with the plate mounted on end; as long as you have it on there, you are okay. When I got my '94 the plate was mounted on the fender under the battery. I thought that location was pushing it a bit so I moved it to under the taillight. I've always liked the vertical mount look and still think I could mount it that way under the muffler somehow.
