This is one of the stupidest things i have done, the other day i noticed a small peice of debris floating in my gas tank so I figured that I could safely fish it out with a rolled up piece of paper, next thing I know it fell out of my fingers and into the tank. I can see it way in the back of the tank but I need to remove it before it starts to break down (full size letter paper rolled up). I did ride it after because i was away from home but only 50 or 60km's. I have manged to borrow one of those flexible brabbing things with the little prongs that expand and contract to retreive things. It is obvioustly some sort of metal and I am worried about causing a spark or static and would rather not kill myself doing this
anybody have any advise regarding this.

Didn't you ever play that game "Operation" when you were a kid? ;-)

I don't think you will get a spark, unless the grabber is made of flint, but to be safe you can wrap the shaft with a couple of layers of tape. Use one long piece, with the end stuck to the handle, in case the gas kills the adhesive, you will be able to get it out.

What about a piece of mechanics wire ,put a small hook on one end and bend the wire
to fit the angle that you need to have to retrieve the paper. I wouldnt be afraid of a spark especially if you go slow. If you are leery of causing a spark, run the wire through a thin straw or coffee stirrer. good luck. ed

The gas tank is pretty easy to take off. I would think the paper is pretty degraded by now, just take the tank off and empty it into a bucket. Rinse it out with some fresh gas after your done to make sure you got everything out.

It is at the back of the tank and from what I can tell it appears to be intact and not fallen apart yet.
Thanks for the help on this one.
I can tell you that this will not happen again.
