Well Hell a 4th gen will do a stoppie. Then I found this article.

    Highly Modified VFR800FI
    Hi Folks,

I outfitted my '00 VFR800 with new five spoke Dymags designed for an RC45 (Silver Sparkle finish). Offset was actually better than stock. The lighter weights - especially in the periphery greatly reduces the moment of inertia (which goes up by the square from the axle center if I remember my physics correctly).

Acceleration and braking are improved - and turn-in is phenomenal. Fitting lightweight Rennsports helped as well (nearly a pound lighter than the popular Dunlop 207). I fitted a Supercoursa equivalent SC1 dead soft and a SC2 medium rear (Pirelli owns Metzeler and is phasing out the Rennsports - same tire from what I understand).

The rear axle had to be fabricated since the ones that are/were available are not what I would want to ride on. Probably cost as much as the rims (or more) but failure here is something I don't want to worry about. Exotic metals, ground threads, no welding, Rockwell tested and I can still use my Pit Bull Stand (though slightly modified).

Went with a 520 chain set and reduced the final drive ratio. The rear sprocket was not available so my tuner ground down a 530 and had it hard coated. First gear is still usable, can keep up with liter bikes in the short straights and can now hit redline in sixth. Freeway droning is no problem either.

Öhlins HRCS rear with a correct (heavier) spring. Traxxion outfitted the front Showa forks with F3 dampening rods and new valving - but my local tuner refined it much further for my riding style. Raised the back a bit for better weight bias and turn-in.

This VFR800 probably handles (for me) better than it should. Riding in the hills it is though I have another lane. Fitted some high-end aftermarket brake pads to the front - it stops better than a bike that weight should - who says you can't do one-finger stoppies with linked brakes?

Sorry for the long post - and excuse my lack of understanding suspension dynamics. All I know is that the bike works.

A poor photo (posted here before):

I don't know where you're located but here in Wa. state a stoppie (or a wheelie) when noticed by LEO is an automatic Reckless citation. As a wise member of this board recently wrote to someone else, "Silly rabbit, tricks are for squids". Actually, we all know lots of those tricks take real skill, the problem is they scare the living crap out of the non riders and end up reflecting poorly on the rest of us. What you do in the privacy of your own abandoned supermarket parking lot is, of course, your own business!

I'll say this much, it's one thing to practice your skills on some back lot minding your own business. It's a whole other subject to be doing out in the wild public's eyes for attention, that will only get you a one way ticket. But nothing wrong with testing ones limits in acceleration and stopping, but as mentioned, there are better bikes to play on. but yes, it will do em.

    RCW 46.61.500
    Reckless driving -- Penalty.

    (1) Any person who drives any vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. Violation of the provisions of this section is a gross misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment of not more than one year and by a fine of not more than five thousand dollars.

    (2) The license or permit to drive or any nonresident privilege of any person convicted of reckless driving shall be suspended by the department for not less than thirty days.

Are there any other forms of reckless driving (other than racing)?

Yes "embracing" while driving is also a crime. According to statute, you may not "embrace" another person while that person is driving.

    Here is that law:

    RCW 46.61.665
    Embracing another while driving.

It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of this state when such person has in his or her embrace another person which prevents the free and unhampered operation of such vehicle. Operation of a motor vehicle in violation of this section is prima facie evidence of reckless driving.

That doesn't say shit about receiving a "mouth hug" while driving, though that may count as an embrace...

To say you don't feel like you can stop to the best of your ability without being able to do a stoppie is freaking retarded, when your back tire has left the ground your ability to slow has been exponentially diminished, since now you have 1 less brake and source of traction. If you want to get your squid on, do like the others recommend, go ruin your VFR in a parking lot somewhere, don't do that shit out on the street

A stoppie is indeed possible on a VFR. I did one unintentionally afterwork today. Was riding home and on the freeway onramp just about to merge into the traffic (traffic was light). Traffic was moving at about 70 kph. Anyway, all of a sudden everyone in front of me slams on their brakes. I grab a handfull of front brake (it was either that, the guardrail to the right or traffic to the left) and I hear my front tire squeal and the rear end is in the air. I let go of the front slowly and kept going. It was a lady on her cellphone and didn't realize the onramp was coming to an end so she slams on her brakes. Save stoppies for emergencies, this wasn't fun.

Hey last year I was on the highway whitelining when a car changed lanes on me - I did a hard stop on my 2k VFR and the bike did a stoppie (I am not a stunner and do not know how to do a stoppie) glad it works on the VFR - saved me some pain, cash, and the embrassment of going down.
