this is my first post!!!! i want to say hello to u all, i am allso an avid member of some Subaru forums, and i am very happy to be here on VFRworld, so.....
    My Ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I rescued a NEGLECTED 84' magna vf500, i spent some time restoring it to its
origanal glory. It came with some new parts, also i got lucky when i went to my honda dealer........ the store owner set me up with an account and a ridiculas discount for parts! Ive changed ALL fluids, Tuned Fork, sprockets-chain ETC>
so everything But the engine is totaly dialed. The engine came running but has serious cam and lifter wear. I put a thousand hard miles on it before a rocker arm broke in half. Honestly I love this bike so much, A cruiser with a crotch rocket engine..... its perfect.
Any way I need some good heads bolted on, can someone help?
Im also still learning, I assume im limited to using the magna heads only?

yea magna heads would be great. if i got interseptor heads instead? would i be able to use my own carbs and airbox? the carbs won't work will they?
This bike needs to be fixed or its going to be lit on fire! and destroyed!

anyone know where i can find heads? What have you guys done when ur cams and rockers wear out. i know im not the only one? i don't have a thousand dollars for new parts!

I used a magna motor in the first 500 interceptor that i built for the wife years ago.Hp # are different not sure if its cams or pipes or both that cause that.

Carbs will interchange but the airbox plate is different. Check part numbers between Interceptor heads and Magna heads and that should tell you if they are interchangeable.

I've got a Magna 500 mint with 3000 miles.. You're right it is a fun little bike to ride. But when it comes down to my VFR750 vs the Magna 500. I will take the VFR anyday ;)

I like the Magna because I have actually taken it off road into orchards. Where I live the orchards have all the primo lake views so I two track it up to view sites and take pics. I would never take my VFR two tracking.. But the Magna is so easy to ride and control it's waaay cool!

I call my Magna my buddy bike for friends who want to go riding with me.

Good Luck in finding parts for the '84.

Anyone have experience with what im doing with here??
Anyway again im sick of searching, so I personaly want to completely agree with what Flya750 was sayin.
My magna has a semi knobby tire on the back and a 14tooth countersprocket for rideability thru trails. First gear is still fast as hell for the stuff i drive my bike up to get to the Lake (lots of torque too LoL ).
Only thing holding it back for going down some hiking trails is the low engine and exhuast system with the collector on the the bottom. is HORribly
    low haha

So im looking into different exhaust and a custom skid plate.Probably look pretty sweet too.
Honestly this bike has already taken to my favorite VIRGIN lake where the fish have only seen humans a few times. beautifull spot 35km from town and an 80min walk in. now I cruise out in about 40 minutes with the magna. Park it at the lake. no one/ nothing there but my canoe and large fat bass that stare at me and my fishing pole with a curious hungary smile. It now has a sweet campsite and a private beach too.

anyway my local wreckers have interseptor heads for $250. ill see if they match up.

it was a complete mess when i got it. I rebuilt and custom tuned the fork....
I only have $550 TOTAL into this bike.
    New
seat, Battery, Oring chain+sprockets, chrome grips,Fluids and tires.
Little bit of luck and a little bit of skill.
Everything on the bike is dialed except the engine so far.
Trust me, its dialed in tight! Like my BMX or downhill bike.....
I was a proffesional bike mechanic for 5 years recently. i was the Head mechanic for 3 different bike shops. Dealing Alot with disc breaks and suspension tuning. But no motors, just gravity and pedal power.
Im know alot about the various things, But when i go to put this engine back together im into unchartered teritory.
Ill post a couple teaser picks, if i can find the icon
