    lol.

so it sounds like, speaking objectively, that a vfr is not a magic bike. better thal all others by a long shot. sounds to me like its a whole package deal. there are faster bikes, but where those bikes have one thing a bit better, the other parts of the bike become major short falls.

whereas with a vfr they have taken all parts into the bike into count in design. The engine uses newer technology, v rather than straight, gear cams (comparitive arguments put asside) and other concepts.

basicially, if you want a bike that is going to go from 0 to 120 faster, this isent the bike for you. but if you want a bike that you can get off of work and ride straight to the track and stand a chance at winning, the vfr is great!

    is this the general consensus?

Thats So wrong the above V3 is a newly developed BMW motor.

Have already heard the Gen 8 VFR will be released in 2012 will be a 750cc v4 have 8 valves per twin conrods per oval cylinder, ceramic lined sleeves a Digital dash, 45mm USD forks, titanium tinted screen and Rev madly past 15,000RPM with ease.

    that seem's about right......

if you want to spend a lot of time on the track, buy a track bike.
if you want to tour - 500+ mile days - buy a touring bike
if you want to hop around town - in & out of traffic, buy a supermoto.
want to just carve canyons & don't have to ride too far to get to them, maybe a 600 I4 or a 748 twin.

if you want to do ALL of this & just want 1 bike

I'd say look pretty hard at a Viffer....works for me.

now, if you want to start a REAL discussion..........let's talk about which generation of VFR.........
you see, the BEST year of VFR to purchase is.......

I would like a moment to discuss engine design with some of the more articulate contrtibutors to this thread. There will be a meeting in Pismo Beach on August 23 to discuss, Torque, firing order, V vs. I configuration, displacement and Horsepower; and other world problems...
    I'll buy the beer.

Seriously, some of the responses on this thread are very impressive. A very in-depth understanding of "Engine Physics" displayed.

or maybe it was just BS.

    ...................but i was impressed

    ever read Kevin Cameron?

I guess you have not ridden Moto Guzzi Le Mans or Ducati 916-996 both oozing with soul.

LGN made a really good post on valvetrain harmonics last year and I remember it vividly.

    All subjective.

I ride a 1000cc Inline 4 that redlines at 12000 RPM. It produces more low end than almost any other liter I4 in production, but a V4 Still trumps it in that area IMO. Doesn't sound nearly as menacing either. However, I like riding the top end of a bike on the weekends but still want a stop and go intercity warrior too.... this bike is a compromise between all I want out purpose built bikes but I can only have one.

I was up in the air between a VFR and my FZ1, but the FZ1 is lighter with fancy features like fully adjustable cartridge inverted forks, self diagnostic mode (I can choose a spark plug to fire and it will fire, or set and injector to fire and it will, etc. VERY useful if something ever went wrong), 190 rear and a more hooligan experience/purpose I went with the FZ.

Did I mention valve adjustments on a 20 valve bike REALLY REALLY REALLY suck? (Though a VFour has twice as many cams and two valve covers, might be a bit more difficult).
