    The Urine test

THIS GUY MAKES A GOOD POINT
This was written by a construction worker in Fort MacMurray- he sure makes a lot of sense.

I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, I work on a rig site for a Fort Mac construction project. I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand that I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass drinking beer and smoking dope.

Could you imagine how much money the provinces would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance cheque? Please pass this along if you agree or simply delete if you don't.

Hope you will pass it along though, because something has to change in this country, and soon!

Tried that here in MI. Too many dope smokers on public assistance voted against it. ;)

Great points. And I was pleased to see VFourbear bring up (indirectly) the drug that has even may have more "issues" than the two in question: caffeine. Our society is more hopped up on speed, um, caffeine than any drug. The health issues and damage to society of excessive caffeine use are under reported. It is speed. Ever drink an energy drink?
BTW, I use a bit of caffeine and alcohol. I can control both but all three drugs share the same issues: all can be used for good or for bad, all can be abused and cause huge problems, and all of them have been or could be taxed to create money to cover the cost of mopping up when someone has caused damage to society because of them. I don't pretend to know what is best in this crazy world but one thing I know is that humans are prone to wanting to alter their everyday reality. They will do it one way or the other, legal or illegal.

Study the history of marijuana laws in the 1930's and it's clear that racism was an element in its prohibition.

Alcohol is by far the most destructive drug in terms of human misery and social and economic cost. Yet it's legal (and should be). And the government is as complicit in it's widespread use as any manufacturer of the stuff.

Isn't it legal to brew a certain volume of alcoholic beverages in your home for your own consumption? Everyone should do this rather than purchasing the stuff to f*ck the feds out of the exorbitant taxes they levy on the product.

I don't drink (anymore), but I'm not against it. It's just not a good thing for me. Others can, though, without negative consequences. I hate those people (J/K!).

Great idea! And I'll watch Cheech and Chong's "Up In Smoke", just to promote a sense of camaraderie. Well, that and to laugh my ass off.

And I'll watch Blazing Saddles, which combines elements of drug use, racism, and absurdity, the better to fuel my already overtaxed appreciation of non sequiturs ..

Absolutely, totally, friggin' RIGHT ON. Let dope be legal, cocaine and heroin too if one chooses to waste their life that way. But as long as a person chooses to use it they forfeit any claim to any form of public assistance. If a person wants to spend their life sitting in a dumpster in a dopey fog til they die it's up to them. I contribute to private community programs that help people who want help. Tax money should not be confiscated and spent on addicts who wish to remain addicts on the public dole.
