My oil pan is Cracked....there is oil all over my street.

Luckily I have a spare oil pan off an 84 (I think) VF500.

The pan looks different. Mine has alot of fins on the bottom and the Drain plug is in the center while this other one has very few fins and the Oil plug is off to one side.

Will there be issues with me using this different pan on my bike?

Is it supposed to be different or is this pan not meant for my bike??

    Shit...nobody knows?!

Guess I better play it safe and see if anyone locally has the same Oil pan as mine.

If the new oil pan has the same depth and clearance for oil pump, crank wieghts and such go a head and use it. But why not take your original pan, clean it up and epoxy it with an aluminum epoxy? You may have to grind the crack some what. That's all.

The Crack is right through where the drain plug is....it seems like a poor choice to fix it when the crack is right through there.

There are two different style oil pans on the first gen vf750/vf700 they are interchangeable but you must use the oil pump pickup that goes with the pan.

^^^^ Well that seems to be the same issue with the VF500.
The pan on the 86's are deeper and the oil drain plug is in the center.
The 84's have a shallower oil pan and the drain plug is off to one side.
Also the oil pans on the 86 have cooling fans along the bottom.

Morale of the story....oil pans are not interchangable.
The pan I got off Ebay is too shallow and doesn't clear the oil pickup. I am shit out of luck.
