I just got my new seat today. It looks very nice. The cowl is an extremely tight fit. However, with the cowl on, it does not lock down like the stock seat does. When I push the down I do not get that reassuring click like I do with the stock seat. There just is not room for it to fit because the cowl is right up against the other plastic. When I take the cowl off, it clicks once I push pretty hard right over where the thing locks down. So it locks with no cowl but not with the cowl.

I called Sandhills to ask them about it and they said it was a warranty issue and referred me to Sargent. I called them and the guy said that this is the first he has ever heard of something like this and that I should talk to the research and development guys who left the office at 3:30. So I need to call back tomorrow.

Have any of you guys had any trouble like this? Do those of you with the Sargent seat get that click with the cowl on?

    Thanks

Like many aftermarket parts my Sargent doesn't fit as well as the original. My seat takes a little extra force down & forward to make it engage the catch. My seat seat doesn't make an audible click either, just pull back & up to make sure it is engaged. The feel, & comfort more than offset the difficulty latching the seat, you'll love it.

I feel like I am about to break the tabs off. I got it on there though. I cut a little bit of the fabric off so that the rear tab would slide in there a little better. I'm not sure if that made a difference, but I thought it certainly couldn't hurt.

It sure looks nice too. My bike is silver and I went with the silver accent. I am pleased. Too bad I just got back from a short 400 mile 2 day trip. I sure could have used it a few days earlier. I am sore.

I was in Boone, NC this morning and rode back home which is right outside of Lynchburg, VA today. It rained the whole time. You know it is pretty bad when your bike leaves a wake. The trip was going to be a day longer, but it was just miserable weather and it wasn't going to get any better.

I saw a rwb in the flesh for the first time last week. My girlfriend and I were hiking off the Blue Ridge Parkway and I saw one go by. It was beautiful.

I did get my seat from Sandhill.

Ok ... I just saw this thread..... I have two fixes for the seat... one is the cowl .... on mine I push the cowl at the sides towards each edge of the seat so it will get past the handles...... But if that's not enough for you, you might have to file off some of the cowls bottom edge if its still hitting after you get it past the handles.....
But 1st let's get to it to lock down easily. The locking loop on the seat will need a mod done, it has plastic inside the loop itself, that's one thing that was causing mine not to line up with the bikes lock.... The other thing that you said, was you need to push down hard to get it to lock.... there's the other mod I did, and that's to grind off some parts on the bottom of the seat that isn't allowing the loop to get low enough to lock easily.
Now I'll post this so you know help is on the way........ And I will get the pic's of my mod's on here shortly.... Hang in there...

I had to cut away some plastic material where the seat latch goes to get it to latch. Otherwise, no go.

Yep, me too! Also had to grind off part of the face of the cowl so it wouldn't chafe the seat and fit better. Gotta be careful with the grinder though...

    Tight Fit

Mine fits a little tight as well, on the initial install it took a few minutes of finessing to line it up with the factory cowl on it. Went out for the first ride and discovered when I got home I did not secure the latch properly. What works for me is to press down and in on the rear of the cowl until I hear the "click". The only issue is the seat does not pop up with the key release, I have to pry it up with my fingers to get it to release but at least no modifications were required.
