Well what do you do to your ride if you have to store it for the winter?

This is only going to be the second winter for me to store my bike. But what I did last year after talking to some people at work and friends that ride was to change the oil and put stabil in a full gas tank. I didnt pull the battery out and the bike started right away this past spring:biggrin: But some others here that im sure are more knowledgeable than me might have a better suggestion.

    Get your washing done.
Add Stabil to tank and top it off to the base of the filler neck.
    Change engine oil and filter.
Shut off the tank pet cock.
Drain the fuel lines. I do this though the float bowls....1995 old school style.
Roll bike into walk out basement!
Pull battery and place away from bike on smart charger.
If you have critters, stuff rags in your exhaust, air box intake, and anywhere else thay may be tempted to make a home.
Put 'er up on the center stand. If on a floor that can stay damp, get the front tire and center stand feet up on something.
This is a good time to tear into it, changing coolant, clean and gap or replace plugs, replace fuel filter, recharge or replace your air filter, lube your throttle cables and check slack, scrub your chain and lube it, check your chain slack and adjust, clean out your radiator fins, etc. etc. All the stuff that you'll be wishing you did when that first beautiful spring day hits, do it and have a guilt free season opener.:peace:

thankfully the winters in Sydney are very mild. My preparation consisted of wearing a long sleeve t-shirt under the jacket instead of a short sleeve one. Didn't even need the winter liner in the jacket this year.

It must suck to have to park the bike for a number of months.

I'm so jealous. Here it is mid-september, and I have only a few more comfortable weekends of riding left. By mid-october the season will be pretty much over barring any extraordinary heat wave here on the atlantic side. Vlad has the storage routine perfected, that's as comprehensive as it gets for routine storage.....the weather here MIGHT allow me to dig the bike out again by mid-march, but most likely early april (as usual). Australia is lookin' good........

Winter prep - I just fill the tank put in some Stabil, Run it to insure the stabil goes through the entire fuel system, change the oil and filter and connect the charger umbilical to all three bikes. Wehn ever we get a nice day I go out for a quick ride, until the season comes again.

A fuel stabilizer. It keeps the gas from breaking down and laquering up your fuel wetted parts, injectors, float bowls, floats, needles etc.
"Stabil" is just a name brand here in North America for the most commonly found off-the-shelf product.

I always knew that you Penrith boys were a bit soft

How good was it yesterday? 23 or so degrees, not a single wisp of wind and crystal clear skies. Beautiful conditions for a pie at the beach (overdressed mind you - draggins, jacket, helmet, boots and gloves do look a bit out of place at the beach).

You guys are lucky. 7 months of winter here and no time to ride. Too busy dealing with snow and chopping wood to heat my house from October til June. Summers are just small breaks between winters up here. Of course theres nothing like pulling up to the Ski Resort in March of April in the bike. You get some weird looks that is for sure.

Not to rub it in...but, my winter prep involves putting the liner in my leather jacket, 'bout it. Gotta love Cali winters!!
