I'm currently experiencing the same problems. The engine bogs between approx. 5.5k and 7.5k after that it pulls it swiftly off the rev counter till 13.5k (extrapolated  ). The bog is not horrible, but noticeable none the least.
Also in 6th gear the bike wont rev passed 6.5k, it feels like it doesn't have the power to pull through the bogging range.

So this is most likely a problem that is caused by my carbs? I tried opening the choke while driving in the bogging rev range and in 5th gear opening the choke did seems to make it rev through the bogging rev range a bit faster.

I was about to get down to the problem, but my carb bowl gaskets went out on me...luckily....Jamie came to my rescue!!!!!

For $25 bones, I got the gaskets for the bowls and the gaskets for the diagphram covers.

Great Deal and good workmanship!!! Gota install the gaskets this week and then I can go about figuring out the problem.

My problem isn't a bog, but more so a surging!!! like 1 cylinder is slower than the others.

I'll report back hopefully soon for you guys.

    Keep those VF500's going!!

What are these diaphram cover gaskets that your speaking of? Im pretty sure that all thats under my diaphram covers is the diaphrams themselves, but i thought they had a molded ring around the perimeter that did the sealing?? Please inform me more of this, as im having a very simular problem and this might be part of it?? Thanks!

the diaphragms also double as a gasket. They have a thickened round edge all around. The problem could be due to the fact that one or more of the diaphragms is torn in the middle or not sealing correct, but that would be unlikely.
I was also experiencing the bogging, but for me the problem was fixed with a vacuum sync. I thought my bench sync was quiet accurate, but it was really bad in fact  Hooked up my dials and 5min later all the bogging belonged to the past.
