I have an old enduro that I put back together recently and when I take it down the highway the front end tends to bounce. I'm thinking out of balance or out of round.

Not much I can do about the out of balance but for the other should I let the air our of the tire, break the bead, and air it back up again?

If its in your power to remove the wheel to do all that, take it in to a bike shop and have them put it on the machine? Doubt it will cost much to have the problem sorted out the first time?

Just a thought from someone that is uneducated, on a budget and still gets by.

    Good luck.

remove your front rim/wheel lock, or have a shop balance it by adding weights 180 out from the rim lock
in the desert you don't feel it because you're not going as fast as on the highway and second you're on bumpy dirt roads and/or trails.

Kundalini & JTC thanks for the information freely given, it was appreciated.

JTC, I’ll say it again “I appreciate it” but don’t crack wise with me. I don’t have the time, save it for some of your punks back home.

Kind of depends. When you say "old enduro" sounds like maybe spoke wheels and they need adjustment. Time consuming but can be done between two centers. Best IMO to take the tire off the wheel. Could be a bent rim too.

sorry I must have missed your reply.
Anyway, did it work? Every single street legal dirtbike, dual sport or otherwise has done to me what you describe at highway speeds. On my Honda XR600, I left the rim lock in and counter balanced it. Never again did I feel it on the dirt but it didn't completely cure the front end "bounce" on the freeway. However on my DR350 I simply removed the rim lock and that thing was smooth as can be.
    Good Luck

JTC, sorry about the reply. Its been a long week and reading it today I was a little harsh...sorry.

Well since my teen might be riding the DT250 also I decided to just put new tires and tubes on all around. I mean, I don't really know how old the front tire is and for all i know its original. In which case it should have had new tires decades ago!

    Thanks for your help

Silly question, but what kind of shape is the fork oil in? I'm wondering if there is little to no suspension dampening.

I just had the local Yam shop change oil and put in new seals. They told me part of the lowers where the seals fit were cracked/broken up so i ended up buying a pair off evil-bay and mixing and matching parts. Its getting hard to find decent parts for bikes this old.

    thanks
