Reacting to various situations in this state of mind might affect your riding ability. Clear your mind of that fear but always be aware and alert.

I have had a couple of crashes. After each one I was apprehensive. The first one was I went off road in a left hand curve, cause I donwshifted one gear to many and the rear stepped out to the right. I went down in some grass and thankfully the bike only suffered cosmetic damage and nothing else other than my pride was hurt. I went out the next day, even though I didn't want to cause I knew if I didn't I probably would not get back on a street bike for a long time. I don't go around left hand curves as good as right hand ones any more. I am still a bit apprehensive about them.

Definately get back on, and for the parts you are apprehensive about, go a head and be a bit more timid in that area until you get your confidence back.

    Jaime,

Thank you for your post, fellow Brother of the Wind. We are all here (well, most of us anyway) to help and support one another after having a bad day. The fact that you're open-minded and wise enough to seek reassurances and collective wisdom from this online community before you ride again speaks volumes about your character.

I too have dealt with post-crash apprehension. Once my motorcycle was totally fixed and looked like new, she sat patiently in my garage for a month before I woke up one morning last May and suddenly felt ready to ride again, and that's what I did. I suited up, sent up prayers to God and my Guardian Angels to give me wisdom and courage, and to always ride with me on my shoulder.

I then sat on my motorcycle while she was idling and warming up, and I had a quiet talk with her. (Her name is Gabriel, in honor of the female Archangel.) Motorcycles have a soul, if you will, and we in turn have a soul connection with them, but some may not yet realize this. At any rate, talk with your motorcycle, tell her you love her, and in return she will love you back and help the both of you to do the right things and always bring you home safe-and-sound. This may sound crazy to some, but I suspect that many riders know exactly what I'm talking about.

That post-accident ride turned out to be an absolute joy for me. I rode more wisely and conservatively, and I found that my fear was no longer paralyzing. Instead, I internalized the lessons learned and I know that I'm a better rider because of this. YMMV.

Take care and be well, fellow Brother of the Wheel.

Ah, the VFRW crash obsession lives. Hope you get it straightened out in your head, you're wrapped way too tight right now. If your first instinct wasn't to get back on and ride ASAP...you need a little time. Some people never mentally recover from having an off.

    Nice post Red Rover!

Everyone has a different approach to life and to motorcycles. A Forum is all about the contrasting and comparing opinions which allow others to use what resonates and toss what isn't applicable to our own lives.

    Thanks, everyone!
