Yes, R.W. they are crack to me. I love these threads LOL!

On a serious note, my uncle and his son (cousin) used to race motocross and Uncle Kenney flat track raced in the 250cc class on a Bultaco. He passed away some time ago, so I didn't know him well. But hanging out with my cousin I asked for some possiblr pics of him or his Dad to screen print on a T-Shirt. Hopefully, that will work out. Uncle Kenney used to pal around with Dick Mann in the pits between races. Pretty cool shit.

Crusty, Speedway bikes don't have brakes (4 lap sprint flat track racing). Standard flat tracks do.

Anyway, I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you live in or around a bunch of the orange and black cult and they treat you great then God bless ya. Otherwise, come on down to Delaware and sit in one of the MSF classes I coach and you'll see quickly why I have such disdain for the asshole wannbe owners of HD. Hell, even the MSF coaches who have Harleys get sick of the nonsence too.

I just might take you up on your offer. I'd be interested in seeing what, if any, differences there are in the Delaware MSF classes compared to the ones I took in PA.

This was the problem I had too. My first couple of exposures to HD riders were in the MSF class I took, and these guys talked a big game 'til we got out onto the course... these guys couldn't even ride 250's on a dinky obstacle course without killin' em, it was ridiculous. They claimed the bikes were just "too small" or "the course wasn't big enough", anything to save face. Then of course after finishin' the course I had run-ins with several Vagos, and once met some Hells Angels, and all of those meetings left me with even greater disdain. I try real hard to appreciate anything with 2 wheels, but overall I find HD riders to be a cockier bunch with a lot more cr@p to say that has no merit. At least crotch rocket guys have CONSTRUCTIVE criticism more often than not.

your kidding me right? your basing your opinion of the OVERALL HD community to be a cockier ....blah blah blah blah. you truely need to get out more.....one could say the same thing about the crotch rocket crowd....ages 17 -25... ride around at mACH 2 , splitting lanes at 40MPH RIDING WHEELIES down the freakin freeway...shall I go on? painting a group with the same wide brush stroke isn't to polite to do. I know a bunch (over a dozen guys ) that ride harleys and they are wonderful people( I know I said 4 earlier but the four are my friends) do they have attitudes yeah they do when THEY get cut off, when someone pulls out in front of them. same as the "crotch rocket crowd" there are asshats in ALL circles lets just not tar and feather every one......peace brother..

Gotta agree with you. I live near Akron where the 'Starboyz' stunters damn near ruined things for motorcyclists in Ohio. Rode like maniacs on I-77/I-271 'til people wanted to shoot 'em on sight. I find Harley riders to be a mixed bag, most are good guys (and gals) who appreciate that there are all types of great bikes and riders. The worst are the bar parked wannabe's who brag about 100 mile days.

Amen! I could not have said it better myself. I actually have more of a problem with the stunter/asshole sportbike crowd than the harley crowd anyday. As crusty mentioned, going 40 over the flow of traffic splitting lanes, wheeling in rush hour traffic. Hell, a neighbor (old man) came up to me as I was cleaning my bike and asked me if I was one of those guys that do just as I mentioned above. He said he sees wheelies in traffic frequently, and just the other day some guy was doing a superman holding himself up by the tank with his feet straight back. I could go on and on. Yes, many aftermarket Harley's are too loud, and some of them ride like jerks, but as I said in the second sentence, sportbike riders cause me much more pain/grief, and are viewed as reckless hooligans by many drivers on the road. This is so bad because it because a reflection of ALL of us just from a few bad apples here and there.

Harley is just a scapegoat for too many riders.

    Brother Toe:
I am more than glad in assisting in pouring MORE gas on the HD fire LOL!

Some of you VFRW members are youngin’s and don’t remember my original HD hating thread, which until it got deleted, was the biggest thread VFRW had until Drewls “Tiger, Tiger” thread.

It’s too bad it’s gone, it was a masterpiece! A true work of art. I was very proud of my baby. It was so good in fact the Orange and Black cult started logging in and beating on me (since I started the damn thing) and KC-10FE since he was my infantry man and taking ‘em on the frontline.

Gotta say, every time a HD thread gets going it keeps going. A squid hating thread gets going and dies a natural death…

But enough about that folks. I do want to say when I was on vacation I actually got into a back roads race with an HD. Didn’t plan on posting up the story, but I think you all give HD’s and their riders more respect after this:

When I was on vacation in upstate PA over the 4th of July, I raced a Harley and after some really hard riding I managed to PASS the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really twisting sections of mountain road with no straight sections to speak of and where most of the bends have warning signs that say "MAX SPEED 30 MPH".

I knew if I was going to pass one of those monsters with those
big-cubic-inch motors, it would have to be a place like this where
handling and rider skill are more important than horsepower alone.

I saw the guy up ahead as I exited one of the turns and knew I could
catch him, but it wouldn't be easy. I concentrated on my braking and
cornering. Three corners later, I was on his mudguard. Catching him
was one thing; passing him would prove to be another.

Two corners later, I pulled up next to him as we sailed down the
mountain. I think he was shocked to see me next to him, as I nearly
got by him before he could recover. Next corner, same thing. I'd
manage to pull up next to him as we started to enter the corners but
when we came out he'd get on the throttle and out-power me. His
horsepower was almost too much to overcome, but this only made me
    more determined than ever.

My only hope was to out-brake him. I held off squeezing the lever
until the last instant. I kept my nerve while he lost his. In an
instant I was by him. Corner after corner, I could hear the roar of
his engine as he struggled to keep up. Three more miles to go before
the road straightens out and he would pass me for good.

But now I was in the lead and he would no longer hold me back. I
stretched out my lead and by the time we reached the bottom of the
canyon, he was more than a full corner behind. I could no longer see
    him in my rear-view mirror.

Once the road did straighten out, it seemed like it took miles
before he passed me, but it was probably just a few hundred yards. I
was no match for that kind of horsepower, but it was done. In the
tightest section of road, where bravery and skill count for more
than horsepower and deep pockets, I had passed him. Though it was
not easy, I had won the race to the bottom of the mountain and I had
preserved the proud tradition of one of the best bits of Brit iron.

I will always remember that moment. I don't think I've ever pedaled
    so hard in my life.

p.s. Stole this off the NESBA message board:tongue:

I think you just met the wrong people in the wrong situation. Some of the Mongols used to live in my neighborhood, and everybody has has nothing but great things to say about them. I've met a Hells Angel too, even has scars from being shot off his bike by a shotgun. He is really a great guy and has a great work ethic. If I chose to dislike a group it would be a toss up which one. You really can't say you hate one or the other without being a jackass yourself.

good point Crusty... just because my run-ins with SoCal HD riders have mostly sucked, it isn't fair to gauge my opinion of all of 'em... I'll try harder to filter lol

Sorry Shorty, but PyroMcnoob pretty much summed up how the orange and black cult acts in every BRC or ERC class I've been around.

Interestingly enough, like you experienced, one of the friendliest conversations I had with a fellow rider was at a gas station in Waldorf, Maryland. A member of the “Outlaws” MC gang was filling up when I was. We had a very good conversation; he was on his way to see some buddies down south and was passing through. He seemed nervous and I asked him if he was nervous because he wasn’t in home territory. He laughed and said pretty much! He knew he was in Pagan lands and I don’t think he had official permission to pass through. He found it funny a citizen like me picked up on that. I told him I did a short working stint in a Federal Prison. I learned quite a bit while I was their. We made other small talk and wished each other a safe journey. That was back sometime in 2000-2001.

Oddly enough it’s one of my fonder memories in motorcycling. I think because we really had nothing in common but motorcycles, albeit two different kinds, but talked like we were old friends.

Yeah, like jay956 posted - if you didn't read between the lines,
Harley owns MVAgusta, which makes the F4, which will smoke our VFR's..

I'm sure for every story of a bad experience, there is a good one as well.

A little old lady cut me off and she was driving a Toyota, so should I assume all little old ladies in Toyota's drive poorly?

When I was out fishing on my boat, a jet-ski flew by 30 feet away - should I assume all jet skiers are ass holes?

The list can go on an on. There is a certain amount of stereotyping that goes on in various facets of our lives (sadly, I'm guilty of it too), but unless your visiting a prison, its not fair to throw the whole group into that category.

Fortunately, you (whoever that may be) have the ability to make choices. If you think all Harley guys are assholes, then, stay away from them. If you don't like Harley bikes, don't buy one.

I love the way some of the Harleys look. Custom paint, all sorts of mods. There's a lot of blood, sweat and cash that go into them, and I can appreciate the person's labor. But aside from the aesthetics, I don't really like them, and not likely you'll find me buying one.
