Hi my name is Frank. I was sure glad to finally find some info on these bikes. I just drug home a 1984 VF500C from sitting in a pasture for the last 14 years. That was on Memorial weekend. I took the bike for a quick test ride this after noon. It's been one hell of alot of work to just get it this far. It was like the bike was frozen in time, so far not a single bolt has just turned loose. I've about worn out my impact. I've got new fork seals installed, the clutch master and slave cylinders rebuilt, the front calipers rebuilt, and the carbs rebuilt (only took me two tries at it!) and syched and set, gone through all the wiring, cleaned and tightened all the connections, taken apart all the switches and cleaned them, rear brakes cleaned and adjusted. If you are a purist quit reading now! The aux. fuel tank was trashed so I did away with it, the coolant over flow tank was the same way and it made the same trip, since I wasn't using the other tank I jerked out the fuel pump too, re-ran the fuel lines to the petcock that I removed from the other side to the left side then into the filter then into the carbs, so much simpler just not much fuel capacity. I've chopped that extra 6 inches off the back, re-cut the rear cowl to fit and cut down the seat into a solo and remounted just the tail light in back, I'm gonna add just a tag plate on the side, signals are no more (took em all off) took off the gauge cluster and replaced it with just a tach and oil light and ignition. took off the air scoop but left the side plastics and scrods, bi-passed the tail light sensor and went direct. I've still got to fabricate a new fork brace, replace the chain, waiting on front brake master cylinder kit to get here and recover the seat and she will be good to go for the rest of this year. She looks pretty rat right now but got all winter to pretty her up, I'd rather ride em than polish em any day. You can check out the pics of my progress in my photos under the Green Hornet. I've got more to post in the next couple of days.

    Hi Frank and Welcome

Looks like your post got missed by a few of us. Myself, I like lots of pictures and less text due to my extremely short attention span. I did take the time to read your post and you seem to be all over that bike and very mechanically inclined. You're just what that neglected old VF500 needed. Now to find the Green Hornet pics o_O cuz I like pics...

You posted a new post on a sunday. Sorry I missed it, Sundays I am ussually out riding in places where there is ( hopefully ) no internet.

I am hoping that by this time you have soaked all those stubborn bolts in penetrating oil?

Well now I am subscribed to your thread so I will come back and check for any news.

WE WONT EVER HAVE MORE THEN ENOUGH NEW MEMBERS!

and yes, you do meet the nicest people on a honda.

Although posting is the best way to get your questions answered, the chat doesnt hurt for making friends.

    Welcome on brother.

If you go to my profile, or my pics I think I have like 68 pics posted of the complete process from start to finish (almost). I'm also a moderator on a site and I know how things get missed just thought it was odd since I did go and post all those pics, I thought damn all that work and not single question about anything, hmmm guess it was too boring

I ussually upload my pics to photobucket and then link them to my threads ( not as links but the photos show up )

I think there is a better way to do it, and most people here do it that way, its in a thread about posting pics LOL.

My threads are usually very bland but I still get an average of 1.5 pages of replies... and I am a jackass, I think that posting the pics ussually gets a spark of interest tho and then a reply etc etc... if you arent knew to forums you probably know all this already.... just basicly replying to:

a: show an interest to a new member
b: bump your thread back to the top
c: hone my drunking typing skillz

ok off to bed I'll check back with you tomorro. Like I said I do know a great mechanic that will have a good idea of whats goin on with your engine ( he brought mine back to life ) but it sounds like the guy above with the beemer avatar had a pretty good suggestion too.

Once again, welcome. Would love to hear another VFR success story, mine was and I am Honda VFR and vfrworld member for life.

Cant really change my mind now that I got the tatoo.

Good to hear, sounds like chat is the place for you! It usually isn't too technical, just a good place to talk about all kinds of off the wall stuff!

I usually don't have time to just chat this time of year. I put on a motorcycle rally the last weekend in July here in eastern Oklahoma 23-26, so I have my web site to keep up with, I moderate on another web site, run a small glass shop, am single so I have to keep up the house, have my personal myspace, and the rally myspace, and I gotta make time for the ladies!!! Then most weekends I'm gone to other rallies doing the p.r. for mine. I type pretty fast for an old man so usually I just say what the hell I gotta say and bug out then check back later. But come Dec, Jan, Feb I'm bored out of my mind.

Yup, winter is definitely a popular time in the chat! Hope to catch you sometime.

So are us VFRWorlders invited to your rally? I think there are some members in your area, it would at least be great to see some pics afterwords!

Also do you have an online shop for your glass work? I've been trying to talk the man into buying neat things for around the house.

I didn't want it to seem like I was here to advertise. Damn well better be since I own two Honda's. www.midsummerthunder.com
No I just do local glass work, mainly custom mirrors and shower enclosures and a little repair. Been doing it 30 plus years so I just do what I want these days, back can't take too many more years of lifting
