I found a 2001, papers(MANUAL) reads built 11-2000 but the frame tag reads:confused: it's a 2001 would this bike be a gear driven Viffer.Honda shop told me that if it was built late in the year of 2001 it could have the v-tec.

    Thanks again

You should be able to tell by looking at it. If it has two angular pipes under the seat it is a 6th gen if it has one pipe exiting by the tire on the right it's a 5th gen. Naturally this only applies to a non-modified bike.

I'm thinking the guy dont know what it is,He thinks it's a v-tec I wouldn't want it if it were.it has the single tail pipe. Its a sweet looking bike only has 4,500 He wants $4,400.

well, it's most probably a 5th gen non-vtec but without eyes on cant say for sure. I havent seen a 6th gen modified to have a side exit pipe yet, though. I think the price is a little steep, though. I'd try to negotiate him below 4k but if you can't it's still fair and you probably won't find another with that low of mileage.

I have been looking now for sometime, test drove 3 and looked at 2 others. Down
here in S.L.C Utah they never go under 2,500 and older then 94 beat up in rough shape.I have had My eye on a 99 with 23,000 guy wants 3000, then this came up.I missed a different 99 in show room with 6,000 and the guy was demanding $4,300 it sold, I think it's a done deal bike is not the v-tec, owner took manual to dealer you was right. but for $1400 more then the 99 for it been show room floor condition and it comes with soft bags 1st owner 60 years of age.Rare find still talking myself into it.(just being a puss)forgot to mention a vtf 1000f with 14,000mi in show room I have been peeping out.

    thanks.

If the build tag reads 11-2000, it's definitely a 5th Gen with the gear driven cams. Aside from that, if you want further proof, does it look like this, only red?

Yes ,with those numbers on the tag ,left side ,its a 5th gen. My 5th gen was built on 11/99 but its a legitimate 2000. If this bike was well taken care of with that low mileage,it should almost be like a new bike. edie

Don't hunt for a bargain. Don't go cheap. Don't try to justify the purchase. Don't try to explain it to the wife. Don't shop around. Simply put, just buy a STAINTUNE.

Bike looks brand new.The guy is delivering it tuesday night. Needs to be piped and then the older fella put some tall bar risers on it looks almost like motocross they sit looks to be 2" off the tank. I have found the staintune pipe now where would you start looking for stock bars or aftermarket bars and extras/up grades.

    Thanks in advance.

    Where are you located?

What are you looking for as far as bars? Converti-Bars are the best you can buy but they cost nearly $500?

What else do you want to do to the bike? I've had my 00 since new so I know 5th Gens pretty well. Working with/stick to a budget sucks so I only get so much cash to spend on my bikes every year. My recent purchase of a 01 for the Wife has seriously reduced my funds for upgrades. Next year, a complete brake job is priority #1. After that, it will be fork upgrades followed by a rear shock.

    Thanks
