I have a space problem at present and need to store the VFR for a least 18months.A friend has offered to store it at his place and just take it for a ride once a month or so which I am considering. The alternative is to store it at my mothers place which would require a long term storage procedure.(not ever done before by me as we ride close to all year round here.)
As the bike is going to be unregistered it's only going to get 10 minutes of ride time around the back streets and I am trying to work out if thats going to be better mechanically than storing it properly and just letting it sit?

    Store it properly.

Besides, what happens if your buddy takes it around the block and "dumps it"?

Or, worse yet, runs into something/someone with your unregistered, uninsured bike?

Nope, I vote - button here up, store it properly, and enjoy it fresh where you left off when you're ready to ride again....

unregistered bikes make you go to jail.
properly stored bikes are worth money.
    no brainer.
read the posts from the gurus on how to store it well and you will be fine.
    just my .02 cents buddy.
    take care!

I'd say store it too but it sounds like you've already decided to. Let alone the legal issues of riding it, I'm not sure a "10 min. ride once a month" will really be that good for the bike anyway. Sorry to hear you'll be unable to ride for 18 months... thats gonna hurt after a while!:biggrin:

I will still be riding my other bikes,It's a matter of space I now have too many vehicles and small garage. The Vfr is getting wrecked by sitting out in the weather. In 18 months we are moving and I will then have more than enough room for everything including the VFR.

 I guess you won't be having riding withdrawls in that case! Although it sounds like you may need to show your VFR some loving and get her out more... it must hurt her seeing you ride off on your other bikes so much.

I did check out your photo gallery to see what your wheels looked like. I am getting ready to change out my tires and I was looking for some ideas of what to do to my rims. I really like the way yours turned out. Good luck with the move...

I think a once a month ten minute ride will do more harm than good. If you can store it out of the weather that would be much better. A full tank with stabilizer run through your engine, battery tender, freshly cleaned and lubed chain, on the center stand or completely off the ground, oiled cylinders and you should be good to park her. If there's gonna be any chance of rodents make sure your block your air intake as well as they will make your air cleaner home. 18 months is a while. You will most likely need to empty your tank and fill it fresh before you run her. I'm sure there are more precautions that you can do but that's about all I do minus the rodent worry.

Okay, I was feeling sorry for you , because you were having to store the bike....but since you have other bikes to ride :yousuck: just kidding bro. I'm lashing out irrationally due to my own inability to keep my bike in a condition worthy of traveling on the roads .....

He has his own gen 6 so he really would be just helping me out but I am going to put it in storage anyway having thought about the advise given here and just make sure I do it right. The only thing I am not 100% sure about is a full tank of fuel with stabilizer and then drain it in 18 months before starting or completely drain the entire fuel system including the injectors. On a carb bike dry is the way to go for sure as I have had to undo the results of stale fuel sitting in carbs many times. Is injection less likely to gunk up with varnish from stale fuel?

    I say store it.

I would go with a full tank to prevent rusting it out. I've seen that happen to a guy in Florida. I've only used fuel stabilizer for six months so I can't say one way or another about 18 months. But I was able to start it right up at the end and I just ran through that tank completely before filling up again.

I will let the TOECUTTER answer that one...
I have to say that I am happy with the picture, but the words and the NCP logo is extremely weak and I will trick it out later when my PC is working again...
dont have a way to make anything cool in photoshop with my current loaner(s) computers.
