Is it just me or do most of you guys find Scott Russell to be the most annoying racing commentator ever? Scott is actually a nice guy who happens to be from my hometown but after every race I watch on Speed TV I wonder how they hired someone to do commentatary who can barely form a complete sentence. I respect what the man has done on the racetrack but I feel like he has no business doing race commentary. Thoughts???? Regards, Rollin
Uncle Bob Sorry but Bob Varsha still is the king of mouthy ,annoying, dipshit,no talent ,know it all a-hole commentators.:blabla:
In answer to your question.... I think a lot of these "use to do it", now I'll be a sports-commentator, as you say, do not make a good orator. But I'll take them as apposed to the armchair commentator that has a gift of gab but doesn't know as much about the sport......
I think what always gets to me is the non-stop dialogue. Occasionally it would be nice just to listen to the vehicles.
At MotoGP this weekend it was very nice to hear the bikes and actually see everything. It was funny to hear the commentary between races. Especially when Scott was talking about Wayne Rainey. If you were Wayne Rainey, you'd know.
Well now, so we're all clear, there are several types of commentators: There's the Play-by-play guy, who is supposed to be your high-level orator; well spoken, highly polished, etc. Then your "color commentator", who is supposed to fill in, between "plays", giving "expert" information and is usually a former athlete or coach/insider. The color commentator isn't supposed to be as well spoken as the PxP guy and is even supposed to add a little humor. So you're not supposed to hold him to the same standard. HOWEVER, all that being said, I agree. I've had about as much as I can take of his accent and lack of ability to add anything worthy to the commentary.
