So I have a GIVI windscreen but find the buffeting on my helmet extremely loud. I'm 5' 9". I also have gen mar risers installed.

I thought my HJC helmet was part of the noice problem so I pciked up a RF-1000. The HJC was too big for me as well. And today the noise level is the same.

So I was thi8nking the MRA Vario might do the trick for my wind noise
    TwistedThrottle.com : MRA VarioTouringScreen Windshield for Honda VFR800, '98-'01 - MRA.01.034.VT

    Any thoughts?

Another option is to go to a double bubble or something lower. If I stand up and put my helmet in cleaner air the noise goes away.

So I need the air higher or lower I guess?

Foam ear plugs are a lot cheaper!

I'm around the same height as you and I also have a lot of problems with this. As a helmet I have Shoei XR-1000 (Euro-version of RF-1000?) with a whisper-kit which is not supposed to be that bad regarding the noise. Still the noise is really loud, even with the plugs on.

Atm I'm using the stock windscreen but I have ordered a double bubble from Zero Gravity.

Let's see if it helps or makes it worse...

+1 for Givi annoyance. I'm 5'8" and have the same issues (Arai Quantum2). My bike actually came with a stock, DB and Givi shields, and I settled on the DB as the best overall. I was initially using the Givi when it was really cold, but got tired of the noise/buffet and put the DB on.
Seems like Givi works better for tall people who have their head up above that boundary layer spilling off the top of the shield.

My Givi touring windscreen broke, so I put the OEM back on. I just made a 5,000+ mile trip and, honestly, I could not tell much of a difference, if any at all. And the OEM is sturdy as can be and, in my opinion, looks better.

BTW, I'm 6'1" and wear a modular Caberg Justissimo GT helmet. With 33db earplugs, there's very little wind sound.

You have it figured...Go lower...cut that thing down and try it. I have spent years playing with screens and finally figured it out for "me"....Low is good, clean air from the neck up is the trick! I also found when I pitched the risers it all worked much better for me. Now i can lay on the tank if tired and run that way all day if need be. Nice out, I just let the clean air hold me up at speed and I can run the speed limit all day with my shield up and my glass's on and no turbulence. No aftermarket screen ever let me do that.
Anyway..either find a stocker to try or cut that one down and definitely go with earplugs..I never used them till too late..:)

Never know what works for you till you experiment. BTW..when i test screens I just stick em on with packing tape at diff angles and heights and it never comes off and gives me a real easy way to test them before chopping them up.
Or go ride a vstrom and see real turbulence and buffeting and then you will think the vfr is awesome after that and be happy!

    ...good luck.

I am about to try low...came with ZG touring (16"), tried givi touring (18") and still too much noise with ear plugs. I'm 5'4" and I thought for sure the tall windscreen would get the air over my helmet, but no. And I am used to naked (on the bike, not me), so I am hoping low will be the answer.

Trying the MRA "sport" (I think it's called). It's stock height (14") but shaped a bit differently. Backordered until end of July (as is the Vario from TT).

ZG DB is now installed, but I think it just made the noise worse :(

    More information later...

I'm about 6'3" in the old money (190 cm) and I had a lot of noise with the stock screen. I got a Laminar Lip (Standard) and it's a lot better, to the point where I can go to the shops without earplugs, but still not as good as if I took my wife's scooter. Clean air seems to be the way to go, which indicates low screens instead of trying to get the airstream to go over your head with a high screen.

I have a Givi windscreen on my 99 VFR and an Arai Quantum 2 helmet.
I am 5'11" and don't notice any buffeting...

Today I made a test and took the whole windscreen off. Buffeting was gone! If I put my hand to the place where the wind screen is and started rising it, at somepoint I started noticing some buffeting again.

So it seems I should find something even lower than stock (or cut it)?

I'm going to cut 2 or 3 inches of my Givi and go from there. If that does not work I will go to a DB. My 92 had a DB and no buffeting.

I had a d-bubble and didn't like the buffeting, so I went with stock height.
I'm 6'2" and the bike has Heli-bars and the stock set-up is the way to go!

Ya I'm 5'9", but if I poke my head up 1 or 2 inches the buffetting is gone. I did not cut down the GIVI, I think i'm just going to buy the sero gravity SR series (same height as stock).

Anyone want a GIVI? He He He

I'm 5'9" wear a Shoei RF1000 and my bike has Helibars, and I have both the stock and the ZG sport touring screens. I find the ZG is great on long runs on the highway, with a lot less turbulence at my chest than the stock, but neither has any helmet buffeting.

That's good to know, I'm 5'9", RF-1000 and gen mar risers. So I'm only down .5" or so from your position.

The Givi is 18.25" tall, DB is 15.2", Stock 14" and the ZG touring is about 17" tall.

I'm probably going to go with the ZG DB or SR.

    Trying to decided now!
