"My friend" has a 226 and it fits into the zippered pocket where the rain cover stores on "his" tank bag. Even when going to thepost office "he" does not leave the tank bag on the bike. If "he" had no choice but to fuel up at a location with 30.06 sign and the place was robbed while "he" was there, "he" has assured me that "he" would let the thiefs pass peacefully and only respond if "his life or his property" were threatened.

"He" is not as certain re: the leniency of those posting 30.06 signage should "he" choose to help them defend their property.

I know you should have a more secure storage than a tank bag but it goes with "him".

I agree with Spike, whatever great pains you go to, it still won't be secure. That is why I (or my friend, or whomever) would just keep it on me (or him).

I'm not so concerned about a 30.06 posting as 9 times out of 10 it's not posted correctly and violating this statute is not harshly punished (comparatively speaking...if caught). As for the Post Office you refer to...that is an entirely different story. You are talking Federal Law with stiff mandatory federal consequences just having the weapon. Given the constantly increasing security measures the Post Office is putting in place…one day “your friend” just my set off a metal detector or something and the next thing you know…”your friend” will be showering with Bubba and Leroy in the federal pen.

I personally….and I know most will not agree with me…believe there would be less risk leaving the weapon on the bike than taking it with me in a post office. In the extremely rare chance that the bike will be stolen from the parking lot of a post office in the 15-20 minutes I might be in there (and think about how busy the parking lot is when the wait is that long…more witnesses to the theft) I believe it would be easier to explain to the cops that both my bike and weapon were stolen than it would be to explain to a cop or judge why I had a firearm in the post office.

But hey…to each his own. I was granted a CHL because I am a law abiding citizen. Once I start breaking those laws…do I really deserve to have a CHL?

Good point on the metal detectors. Haven't showered with Bubba and Leroy since I got out of the Navy. Perhaps "my friend" should look into the postage from your printer deals from the USPS.

I have a great idea. Have your mail delivered to your house (since it is free) and you will never need to go there.

My '98 VFR was stolen, in broad daylight, from in front of an office building where about 900 people work. Due to the nature of the business, people are coming and going from 5am to 9pm. So constant traffic in the parking lot. Spot where bike was parked, is probly visable from 50 people's desk. There is roaming, but useless really, security. It still just disappeared. And this isn't by any means a rough neighborhood. Parking lot is not viewable from the street. It doesn't take long for two or three determined guys, who don't care about scratches/dents to throw one in the back of a van or truck and be off.

OK, how to lock up a gun on a 6th gen VFR.

Under the seat? Not an option. Undertail exhaust barely leaves room for an insurance card.

Must be locked. So pretty much your only option is a top box. I'm sure you won't find anything with the sole purpose of locking a gun for your motorcycle. Plus, multi-taskers are always the way to go.:third:

He definately had cause to use the threat of deadly force. He actually kept his composer quite well....I do not know if I would have put up with the harassment that long before getting out and putting the gun in his face.

He handled it way better than I would have...

Chased down a remote road and threatened with a baseball bat? Yeah, I would have been pissed.

Those guys in the truck sure shut the the f* up. They're lucky they only lost a camera and thier keys.

Just goes to show though, don't go around being a twat cause eventually you're going to piss off the wrong person.

It's a possibility, but normally when people stage stuff like this they're all pretty close in age and dress the same.

Between the seat and the right foot peg there's a little black plastic cover that comes off with the plastic pop rivets. I'm not sure how hot it gets in there, but it could be used for storage.

I have an 01 gen5 with a Sargent seat. I usually carry an ultra compact 1911 and leave it under the seat cable locked to the frame when I go in places that don't allow me to protect myself, like post offices or schools - where I worK!
I know the gen 6 has minimal room under the seat but in those instances you mentioned you may want to get a nice small flat gun- like the Kel Tec P32 I have- that fits in a space as small as a pocket with ease. Ive actaully been able to hide the P32 in between the frame and fairing under the seat.
Oh, yeah I do live in the 2nd amendment nightmare state of NY (not in NYC though) and have a carry license and try to stay as legal as I can as well.

Keep this in mind....if you should crash, a gun tucked in your waistband, jacket pocket, or shoulder-holster could hurt you very badly. It would be ashame if the weapon meant to protect you was to crunch your ribs in.
This being said, I am in the same situation you are. I like to have the peace of mind that comes with carrying (legally, with NC Permit), but I don't want to worry about the legal hassles when I go to the bank or whatever.
    I've considered purchasing a kel-tec 3at: http://www.kel-tec.com/p3at.html
At only 10oz. loaded and .77" wide, it should fit concealed somewhere on the bike itself. Of course, having it too far out of reach greatly reduces its usefulness.
    So far...no perfect solutions.

I am considering getting a Kahr MK40. They are extreamly small framed...fairly large caliber...and have excellent reviews. http://www.kahr.com/pistols_40sw.html#40sw

However they cost in upwards of $600 - $700.
