    Hello all.

I'm looking to build an electric motorcycle and I'm kind of a honda guy. I have an RC51 now, and really like the sssa on the VFRs, so I think I want to start my project with a VFR.

Basically I'm looking to you guys to suggest which year I should purchase. I'm going to end up selling most of the fairings, the engine, the exhaust, ecu, and everything else I don't need for an electric bike.

It looks like I can get an early 90's VFR for ~$2000. I've also found a 2005 with a rebuilt title, scratched fairings, no battery, no rearset on the right side, for about $2500.

What do you guys think? is there a specific year range that will get me more money for the parts I'm not going to need?

    Thanks,
I hope to post some progress here in the future..

He's using a first gen right? I found one of those local for $150, but the guy could never come up with the title, and now I'm more interested in the later models for the sssa.

I've been compiling info for about a year, also, this book is great for anyone else interested, definitely worth the $20:

    gen 5 and 6

I would think gen 5 and 6 would not be a good idea given the layout of the frame and engine.

I'd also say no on the 5th/6th due to the swingarm being mounted off the engine. I've been kind of following Frodus' progress with his 2ndGen for awhile, and also liking the 3rd/4th idea for such a project.
Modulus- where in NeOhio are you?

Yeah, the undertail/seat area looks to be a pipe frame with minimal open cavities..
    Here's the parts pdf view

A pic of the gen 3 undertail/seat frame area..

Looks like the gen 3 affords a lot more options for mounting locations.

So, any big differences between the gen 3 and gen 4 that would make one more appealing than the other? The gen 3 seems to be fairly available in good condition..

I didn't know the swingarm was mounted off of the engine on the 5th/6th, that'd make things a lot more work.. so thanks for that.. :D
I'll probably go with a 3rd gen.. I'm in Cleveland, but grew up in Akron..
