    Hi all,

Recent lurker, new poster. I currently ride a 2006 Suzuki SV650S and caught the taste for touring.

I have a lead on a 2006 White VFR, non-ABS with low miles (3500 kms). Seller is asking 6800 neg. (quite low for the area, Viffers typically go for around 8000 to 10,000 for this age/mileage). Seller is the second owner, has no paperwork (maintenance records), bike was down on right side, plastics and clipon were replaced.

    My questions:

    1. Is this worth going for?

    2. Anything I should be attentive towards if I decide to go look at it?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

What exactly do you mean he has no paperwork?? Are you implying that he has no title/registration or proof of ownership or does this mean he has no service records??

If he doesn't have the title or registration I would walk away from th deal unless he is willing to go with you to have the bike titled and registered in your name prior to full payment. I would also want a copy of his drivers license in case you or the police need to identify or locate him in the future in case the deal was not legit.

    Regards,
    Rollin

Here you cannot register or licence a vehilce without paperwork. It is easily available if you loose it.

But in any event, back to question posed. I would be extremely suspicious of that price. I would inspect that thing with a microscope. I just turned 76,000 km on my 06 and if I were to put it up for sale right now, I would be asking a lot more than that. The present owner knows who he bought it from, or at least, with a very little digging, could find out. I would want to know the specifics about how it went down. For instance, mine has been down 5 times. All while stopped though. It does make a difference.

It is pretty low for CDN standards. If it was a US bike and the first owner got it at a reasonable non Canadian price then maybe your seller can sell it cheaper. So is it a US bike?

Have it looked at, make sure it's not a "rebuilt" or at least find out if it is. Being down wouldn't bother me all that much providing it wasn't run over by a truck when it was down.

Did the current owner state why he is selling the bike? I would be a little suspicious myself since the bike has very low mileage and is significantly cheaper than comparable bikes of the same age/condition. It also seems a bit strange to me that such a low mileage bike has already had two owners. I've seen this happen quite often when a badly damaged bike is purchased by someone else who fixes it up and then tries to sell it again for a profit. If you don't know much about bikes I would take someone with you who is knowlegeable so that they can check it out thoroughly for you.

    Regards
    Rollin
