Nope not cancer. Its the 7th level. Your friend now has 7 gears on his bike.

To activate the 7th gear, you need to be doing 150, release gas, engage clutch, with your right hand press button, disengage clutch, twist the throttle.

Indeed it has something to do with H.I.S.S. I think you can turn the blinking of the LED (or whole thing?) down with that button.

Pretty sure that it extends the wings from the side fairings, but only if you are going at the above speeds mentioned, hence the urban myths.

Actually if I were a gambling person I would bet that it was to switch between trip meter A and trip B... Useful if you like to keep track of gas mileage as well as something else (like chain maintenance).

[or we are all pawns for the web site on the picture's tag; can't he find out by pressing it, I'm sure that it's not too hot to touch]

It's actually the same button for switching between mileage, trip A, trip B and resetting.

...but that picture doesn't show the red button

The button was invented by Canadian Smokies after hearing so many American riders trying to BS thier way out of a citation by telling John Law that they were only going 60 in a 60 klik zone. Pressing it twice valves in the nitrous.

Kundalini and I were talking about that thing in the chat, that's why he made this post.

If it's just a "blank" or non-functional "thing" on U.S. bikes, then I was thinking it would be a nice place to install a gear indicator. If I could somehow carefully shape the hole into a rectangle and mount the gear indicator display behind the gauge panel I could make the install very nice looking.

... just random early morning thoughts.

I checked the Workshop manual to no avail...... You might look in your owners manual(I don't want to dig under my seat to look)......... It could be a "non-USA" indicater.... In some countries you have to leave a light on when parking on a public street at night.....It could possibly have something to do with that........

I think it's some sort of universal button that runs things like Honda has on Goldwings for people who bought VFR's and need to tack on things like cell phones, TV sets, toasters and stuff like that.
