Just got a 91 yesterday and today it misfires, backfires and sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders. It also has the clock reset to 1 am issue so figure its something electrical. Any suggestions?

The clock resetting to 1:00 is an undervoltage indication. Start with a well charged battery and check running voltage with a digital voltmeter. Anything less than 13.8 volts running will cause misfiring. Knowing the VFR's history, you should be prepared to replace the regulator/rectifier. Try Electrex or Dynamo Humm for a price better that the Honda dealer.

Thanks waldrm. Voltage was 10.7 volts so the r/r was replaced. Clock now works. Turned out misfiring was carb problem. Now fixed and all well.
