So, I'm sure this is a bumb question...

I've never used a C spanner to adjust suspension before. I've always had adjuster knobs for that. The one supplied in the tool kit doesn't seem to fit the rear suspension. It looks like it's too big, or was stretched out or something... When I put the front tooth/hooky/thingy in the twisty part on top of the rear coil it pivots out when I move the wrench back to engage the rear tooth. Am I doing something wrong or did my C Spanner get stretched out?

My rear suspension is on 2 and I want it on 3 or 4. I'm thinking it makes a more sporty ride, right?

Hi Canib, sounds like you might be trying to use the tool for adjusting chain tension. The topic of which tool for what adjustment has come up before recently - the link is

The last item for the thread has the picture I took of the two adjusters.
Adjusting the spring preload will certainly firm up the rear - you may also want to give the dampening a tweak as well - it can be set to hard or soft.

If your looking for a firmer ride all round, I would also experiment with the preload on the front suspension too.

    Cheers!

The rear springload spanner is available in the "optional" tool kit. Great way for Honda to get an extra $60 out of you...

Ah yes, the kit that came with my 06 has the chain adjustment tool, but not the preload adjuster. Thanks a ton, I felt like a damn monkey trying to get the chain adjustment tool to work on my preload adjuster, lol. I'll have to recheck my kit for the correct tool and if I don't have it I'll definetly buy it.

I'll tweak the preload up two clicks as a temporary fix until I can have someone set it up for me. I feel pretty mechanically inclined, but I think profesionals should do some things for me, like fine tune the suspension.

I fixed the front suspension on my CBR600, but that's cuase it was broken. Broken is easier to do than fine tune I've found.

    Thanks a ton!

Does anyone happen to have a link etc... to where I can purchase the Springload Spanner tool as I just bought a 2006 and it is really hard for me to touch the ground when I sit on the bike.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

I use a pair of channel-loc pliers to turn my preload spring the few times I have the Mrs. along for a ride. The tools in the 06++ "kit" blow chunks as they do not even allow you to loosen the chain adjuster bolt! They only turn the cam after you use your own wrench/socket. The owner's manual doesn't even tell you that you need an optional spanner wrench.

so yes, I spent at least ten minutes trying to figure out how to use the tools for something they weren't designed for as well.

ALLshot - As far as changing the ride height so your feet touch better, I would not mess with the preload to get a lower ride. You can adjust the fork tubes and the rear suspension mount as described in some other threads... I'll see if I can dig them up.

    digg dugg...
