I have just joined and thought I would put up a couple of pictures. I am a member of a forum in Australia and this is a ride report I put up a few months ago: -

Day 1 saw us leave Sydney and fight the awful peak traffic (against the flow no less) before hitting the freeway south. First stop was Bowral for brekkie.

From there it was down through the Kangaroo Valley and into Nowra. At a petrol station in south Nowra a bloke on an Aprilia mentioned that the road through Bermagui / Tathra was now sealed (my map suggested otherwise), so the route was altered slightly to take this part in (and I was very pleased to get that little tip, as it was very scenic).

Just short of Bega, I had a bit of time to kill whilst Damienzzr learnt how to get fuel back into his motor after running the main tank empty (he still had his reserve).

From here it was on to Bega for the 1st night. Stayed at the Best Western. Not a bad town, but a bit too quiet for me.

Woke up in the morning to what was a pretty thick fog. Thankfully it was just down low as we headed for Brown Mountain.

Whilst I was super slow, Brown Mountain wasn't near as bad as I thought it was going to be. I pictured slippery corners, deep dark rainforest shadowed roads etc. As I said, I took it slow and steady and it proved very enjoyable with the exception of one dip in the road on a corner that made me think I was a goner.

Stopped for what was a great brekkie and a really nice coffee at a place called CJ Harveys in Nimmitabel. Nice people and I recommend a stop if you are going through town. From here to Cooma was my idea of motorcycling nirvana. Wide open roads, little to no traffic and just gentle sweeping corners. If I worked in Cooma, I would have to live in Nimmitabel just so I could commute that road twice a day. Probably was my favourite section of the entire trip.

From there it was onto Jindabyne, Thredbo and onto Khancoban (still don't know how to pronounce that one). The road from Thredbo to Khancoban took an eternity (approx 90 minutes including a couple of stops) to do 60 odd km's. Again, slow and steady was my game.

Running low on fuel and hungry, we turned off the road to head for the Khancoban town centre. As the pic below shows, it was very, very quiet. Great looking girl behind the counter though (and the hamburger with the lot was pretty good too).

We then headed over the border into Mexico (Victoria) where thankfully, we avoided the police. Again, great road from near Corryong through to Walwa and beyond.

At Granya, missed a turn and headed to Tallangatta by mistake, instead of continuing the Murray River Road. By the time we had hit Tallangatta, it was too late to turn around. Carried on to Wodonga, then Albury for the night.

Today was a straight forward run up the Hume. We both wanted to get home, so the 565km's (+ another 30 odd for Damienzzr) was basically head down, tail up. Brekkie at Gundagai (in a cafe I would have loved to have seen in its heyday) and a number of other stops along the way to resuscitate various parts of the body / bloodflow.

All in all, approx 1,500km's with (touch wood) no speeding fines. The bikes ran perfectly and due to necessity, I discovered a riding position that wasn't too bad on the freeway. Just one or two hairy moments, but it was all pretty much plain sailing, albeit very enjoyable along the way. The bike is now in the garage, crying out for a clean. I had one particularly nasty bug kill today that has splattered up through the gap the VFR has in its front screen, so I look forward to that cleaning challenge.

I've always wanted to go to Australia. Maybe one of these days the Air Force will send me there for some reason or another. Sounds like it was a reat trip and you took some awesome pics.

beautiful. nice write up. I had one of those bug challenges under the screen. I had to take the screen off and clean it off with plexus. that's when I dropped the bike and dented the tank. It was a nice bonehead move and a costly one... I have yet to fix it.

Hi Tones - great pics! You covered a fair bit of the route I took on a ride in March that saw us stop over in Walwas Pub. Great place to stay overnight - cheap as chips. $35 for room, dinner (BBQ with the lot) and breakfast combined.

I'm looking to do the Bombala, Cann River and Myrtleford run in late November. Drop me a line if your interested!

    Cheers,

    Skid

Great write up, and good piccies. :)
I see the Hume dam is still quite low, i pronounce 'Khancoban' as 'Kan-ko-ban'. I did lot's of great rides when i lived at Wodonga, IMHO Victoria has some of the best road rides in AU.
Oh and you have the best colour VFR.:first:

$35 is dirt cheap if the meals were included (even if they weren't). No worries with the bike overnight?

I am actually heading south again first weekend of December with the Two Wheels forum guys/gals for the xmas party. Staying at Adaminaby from memory, so if you are keen for a ride, there will be plenty of people down that way.

The Bombala run sounds good too, though that might have to wait til next year.

Small world. When I came back from that ride, I mentioned to a good mate of mine about where I had been and he told me that his wife lived in Khancoban and had even worked in the store where I commented on the nice girl behind the counter.

Definitely keen to explore more of Victoria, because of the little I saw, I was tempted to return.

    Hey Tones,

the bikes were safe and sound, the Pub owner had us put them in a large shed on the site that was secured with a locked gate. No trouble at all. He regularly gets bikers staying at Pub so is one of those Publicans who are 'motorcyclist friendly'.

    Cheers,

    Skid
