Has anyone installed a garage door opener on a 6th gen? I am looking into getting one and would like some feedback from anyone else that has installed one.

I have actually installed a remote on my 5th gen. There are expensive little kits out there but you can simply wire up your remote to a button on the dash or something like the high beams, which I did. Flick the high beams and the door opens. All it takes is a $5 relay and some wiring.

    Here's some pics. http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34900

Instead of a button wire the remote to a relay. The powered side of the relay ties in to a circuit on the bike, like the high beams.

buddy canabalized a garage door opener and has it powered thru the bike. He just hit the button located wherever he mounted it and has the board under his seat. works great.

I just went out and bought a keychain opener.

I am using that one now but would love an upgrade.

I had my remote velcro-ed onto my bars right underneath my key on my 85 interceptor, but on my 1990 it would just look ugly. Still looking for a solution. As it is, i just keep the remote in my tank bag, but it means I still have to stop in the driveway. I liked hitting the switch and having the door open for me a hundred feet away batcave style like. My bike is too pretty to me to velcro anything onto it, but I am working on a semi permanant tank bag solution. Will post results when I have some.

I purchased and installed the "flash to pass" on my 07. I love it, by far the best option I could get for the bike. It comes with a small box and a new door opener button/box that you install inside the garage that replaces the opener button. I mounted mine under the left side panel and ran the wires directly to the headlight plug. I had the whole thing done in less than an hour. I know you can canabalize a remote, but this is designed to be in the weather and comes as a kit. I get home from work late at night and all I do is flash the high beams as I come into sight of the house and the door is open as I pull up to it....works great. I got mine off of ebay for $65 shipped to the house. Call me lazy, but I used a remote last year on my old bike and it was such a pain in the ass digging it out of the tank bag at 3am in the pouring rain.

I just have one of those small openers that I have on my key ring. it does not go anywhere & still fits in my pocket.

I looked @ a bike where the guy took a regular garage door opener, split it open & wired some "jumper wires" into it & made a little sheet metal bracket to hold a momentary button that he put on the bars. he did a good job of hiding the wires & the actual opener was under the seat. great idea, I thought, as long as you allways keep the bike in the garage. leave it out in the driveway for a few nights, & everyone has free access to your garage/house.

I just rev the throttle at the end of the driveway, and the wonderful wife goes into the garage and presses the garage door opener. I've had this unit for some time and I think its only cost me about $4,000,000 so far. I'm looking into an upgrade.

I installed a system from Flash2Pass technologies as well on mine. The installation on the bike went smoothly. Using their connectors prevented any disconnection of wires. I tucked the transmitter behind the upper left small piece of faring. It's the piece between the lower faring and the instrument panel. It fit nicely inside. If you do this be sure to add something to prevent the transmitter from rattling around.

On another note the custumer service of F2P was outstanding. The first kit I ordered from a motorcycle store via Amazon had both a bad transmitter and garage door receiver. Customer service sent a whole new kit along with the optional DC adapter (that I needed and you may too).

Works great. As I round the corner a couple of flicks of the high beam and the door is up as I reach to garage. Two more and down it goes behind me.

Forget trying to use outright or jury-rigging something with a normal door opener's remote. Those things aren't waterproof or even drip tight and water will eventually find a way in and probably when you need that door up the most.

The clock is ticking. But you obviously did a good job - congrats. My warning is for those less skilled.
