    Hi folks,

I'm a new member form So Cal. I currently own a Harley Heritage, a Suzi DRZ400s, and a '77 Honda 750k that I'm rebuilding as a cafe racer. I've wanted a sport tourer for a while and I think the VFR is the right choice (obviously...as I've joined the forum).

I don't want to create a debate about which gen is best, but here are my thoughts...

I can afford a brand new bike, but I would like to save cash, so I'm looking toward used.

    I want a 5th or 6th gen as I don't want anything too old.

I like the idea of non-VTEC or if VTEC, maybe the '06 or newer with the different RPM settings. But if it isn't a dramatic difference, I can be persuaded otherwise.

I like to do all my own work on my bikes.

I don't want a red bike. Just a personal preference. I would prefer silver. Black might be an option too.

ABS sounds good, but again, feel free to persuade me otherwise.

What's the perfect bike for me? I know...I know...

    But any thoughts?

    And thanks!!!

I like my 98' but have never been a fan of red so I had it painted. The 4th and 5th gen are my favorite the 6th gen looks more like a crotch rocket to me. As far as performance goes they are pretty close no huge gains.

Simply put the VTEC is an annoying pain in the ass unless you put $1000+ more into the bike to help smooth the transition by adding an aftermarket exhaust and power commander + remapping. I personally would go with the non-vtec and the gear driven cams 5th Gen. If you don't like the color just paint it. If you don't spend much time below 7k rpm will get used to the 6th Gen VTEC engagement eventually. What kinda riding do you primarily do?

    Regards,
    Rollin

Get yourself a leftover... They are out there, and you can save some real coin. If I were you, I would look around, word has it new bike dealers are hurting as the market is flooded with used bikes (everyone in the Northeast ran out and got a bike last year with gas prices). As far as the VTEC.... I would not let that be a deal breaker. I was hesitent to buy one due to the feedback (couldn't beat the deal on the leftover) and it does take some getting used to. I find that you either use it or you dont. If I am just putting around, I keep it below 7 grand... If I am on it, then it is even better. If you hang in the "engagement zone" and just kind of linger there, then you will feel the hesitation and it is anoying (crap or get off the pot). I have the ABS but it is just a piece of mind....well it was until I was going 75mph on rt 81 when a deer committed suicide about 100 yards in front of me (wife on the back). As the trafic in front of me came to a hault in a hurry the abs was nice....as the guy behind me wasn't paying attention, the VTEC was even better!
