I finally got my Free Street Design undertail and am working on getting it mounted. It didn't come with instructions and I'm still waiting on a reply from FSD on that.

Has anyone installed one of these? Do I mount it to the rear cowling first then to the bike like the stock one? And how do I do that? The undertail has two predrilled holes, but they don't match up to the rear cowling. I was thinking of drilling holes, but the fiber glass of the undertail doesn't go back far enough to match up with the stock holes.

I've been taking pics and will upload them all when I'm done, as well as instructions, and a list of gripes...

As a side note I drilled my pipes and the bike doesn't sound likes a sewing machine anymore. Those pipes are heavy! Also painted the heat sheilds black and will put pics in my gallery soon.

Hey, I was heavily considering the FSD tail too, but couldn't find a US sales distributor. I didn't ever try to contact FSD directly though, so maybe thats the trick. What did you pay? And with regard to how it is installed, I have no idea, but like most aftermarket products, the instructions should be similar to stock. I'd suggest getting a hold of the stock teardown manual.

My remus exhaust didn't come with instructions, and come to think of it, neither did my Pazzo levers!

I really like the FSD part though, it would really finish off my custom rebuild of my 06 black pearl.

I had to order from FSD directly. It took about 4.5 weeks to get here from there. I got the unpainted version for $219 (USD) plus $50 for shipping from France. It's another $50 or so to get it painted. At the time I didn't know there was a choice between clear and red lenses, so I ended up with red. Make sure to specify clear in your order if that's what you want. On the up side there is a huge weight difference.

I painted it rustoleum satin black, becuase satin black is the best color for parts you don't want to see.

You would think you wouldn't need instuctions. The stock rear light assembly is simple to get on and off. There's stock mounting places on the rear cowling for the stock lights, but the FSD undertail doesn't go that far back. It falls about two inches too short. In the center of the undertail, near the tip, there is a tab the slides into a slot on the stock rear cowling, but after you slide it on there's no obvoiuse place to put bolts or screws. You put your rear cowling upside down, place your new undertail on it, slide the undertail back so the tab locks in place. Then I can't figure out what to do. I can't imagine bolting the whole thing to the bike with just a tab holding it in place.

Still waiting for a response from FSD.

The fit and finish is so-so. Responses from FSD take about 24 hours due to the time difference. I email them, get a response 12 hours later, I respond 12 hours after that... There may also be a language barrier.

OK, I got it. There's a ton of plastic you need to grind off. The underseat storage is basically a mold plastic 'bucket'. You need to cut this off from the aluminum underside back.

I also finally got instructions from FSD today. Also, they want $89 for the clear tail light kit. I think I'll find my own...

I've been using my digicam to document the whole project and will get it all online when I'm done.

That's no big deal I'm looking at an 02 anyways so that exhaust would work and that undertail from free street designs. This is sad I haven't even bought the bike and I'm already planning my mods

Oh please, I planned out all the aftermarket parts for my viffer like 5 times before I even bought it :)

I made and refined a number of different lists or goodies.
Now that I have the bike I can't afford half the stuff I wanted to do lol

I want to do suspension before pipes, but can't afford either right now so I've drilled my pipes out and painted the heat shields :) Guess that'll have to hold me over for awhile. I'll probably call around to the bike shops to see if anyone will adjust my stock suspension for me for cheap. The C spanner that came with the tool kit seems like it's too big for the rear suspension...

The difference is I haven't decided that I'm buying a VFR yet lol I'm still torn between it and the speed triple. I found a real good deal on a silver 03 VFR so I think it is going to be my bike very soon.
