Hey folks coupla things here. I have been experiencing a slight numbness to my left thumb and index finger. I recently returned from an 1800 mile trip on my 06. I have Helis installed. Anyone else have this issue and how did you cure it?

Two is there a market specifically on here for quality upgrades parts if I have to sell the bike. I am talking Givi V35's, Sergeant World Sport seat, Double Bubble shield, also a Remus exhaust, If I have to sell the bike I would like to make some one a hell of a sweet deal on these parts. The bike is a 6th Gen.

Try adding a throttle rocker and a throttle lock so you dont have to have a constant hard grip on the bars. Its ez to just hold the throttle open with just an open palm with the rocker.

    Good luck,

Oh --- left? Thats a new one on me. Do you ever ride one handed? On a drone I usually rest my elbow on the tank.

keep elbows bent and grip tank more w/ legs, so you are using lower body to keep you on the bike.
you are either carrying your weight w/ your arms & hands or poss your gloves are to tight - try a larger size.

it might sound funny about the gloves but I had a set that when hand was holding the bars the seam on glove would pinch ( no discomfort but you could feel it tighter ) my hand and cause my fingers my case pinky and ring finger to go numb.
I also suffer from carpal tunnel syndrom - that could be possiblity.
ck out this like and look at pics on top try to tape your hand in this fasion before a ride and see if it helps out at all for you.

+1 on the gloves. I recently bought new leather gloves and before they stretched to conform to my hands they caused my hand to go numb on longer rides. they may fit fine when you're testing them out on your couch but with the stresses of being on the road, especially droning down the freeway, all sorts of pains and numbness can occur. Just resting my left arm on the left fairing top or on my leg makes a huge difference.

Don't sell the bike just because of a numb finger or 2! There are less detrimental ways of dealing with this! :thumb:

Throttle Rocket also makes one for the left grip also. I think the glove thing may be why my right hand goes numb. The gloves are obviously the same size, but the right glove feels a bit tighter than the left...either they were manufactured a bit off or my right hand is a bit bigger than my left.

OK, start the jokes...perhaps I use my right hand too much for other activities???

Hey Blackcloud. What's "a little numbness"? Like pins and needles when you have a leg fall asleep? Or as in you can't move it at all? How long until it went away (or it didn't?)
How long did it take you to go 1800 miles? Maybe that many miles on in a short period of time exacerbated an otherwise minor issue??

I'm just wondering if there are other things that you can evaluate to help find out why this is happening. How long you been riding in general? How long on the VFR? Previous longest trip?

It'd be a shame for you to have to part with such a fine ride if this numbing sensation is a one time thing. Good luck, sir.

Well I ve been riding a lot in the past 6 or 7 years. The numbness is more like a tingle in the tips of my index and thumb on my left hand. The 1800 mile trip was split into like two 600 mile days with some 200 days also, mostly high speed blasts on the interstate. That was in mid may. I will try a few things, but it seem to not be getting any better.

i you've still got the stock grips i'd try a different set of grips. i've often recommended Pro-grips. i use the old school superbike grips. gottem on all 3 of my bikes. i think all of the Pro Grips are a gel type.

I might be interested in everything except the exhaust depending on the price/condition and color of the seat....
not that I want you to sell your bike, just letting you know that if you decide to, you will likely be able to sell the aftermarket stuff

On my first long ride, I had a death grip on both of the grips (I was a newbie). My thumb and forefinger, on both hands, got totally numb on the inside surfaces. It took about six months or so to get 95% of the feeling back, but I must have done some permanent nerve damage.

Then I got some good advice on this site. Grip the tank with your knees to help hold yourself up, just hover your hands over the grips (like you have them on eggshells), keep your arms loose, let your elbows hang down, and just push on the grips to counter steer into corners. Also, ride one handed periodically to give your arms a break. If you have a throttle lock, you can do this with your throttle hand also.

Since I started doing this, I have not had any problems. Well, I did have a pair of leather gloves that got too tight after riding for a while and they bothered my thumbs. I don't use them anymore.

In a moment of clarity I may have solved my problem. During the long ride my hands did not bother me. This has occured lately. The difference may be that I removed my tank bra after a wash and wax. Seeing how spiffy the bike was I left it off. I was probably sitting further back on the seat so as to not scratch the tank with zipper, leather etc. This may have placed undo strain on hand? I will replace today! Thanks to all who responded, even if you just wanted to get a good price on my upgrades hahahahaha.

    Hand Issues

    Hey Blackcloud,
I have an 07 with Heli's and experienced problems of my own. This is my first bike with an aggressive sitting position.
In my case, I believe that I wasn't relaxing my hands and arms when riding and I was letting my hands and wrists take all the punishment when stopping and/or slowing down, downshifting, etc.
On last ride, made sure I wasn't tensing up and used my knees on the tank to take the weight off of my wrists when de-accellerating.
I think it worked for me and hopefully it will for you.
