I'll probably be able to do a leg of the loop here or there (love to do the Sonora Pass). I'll most likely have to work part of that weekend as I've got a big project presentation that following Tues.

Ok can we start the list of flakes? I am sick of short rides and am in need of a fix. A long ride and beers with good folks is in order .:biggrin:

Sorry guys...have to cancel...my wife wants me to build a pig pen now. Just kidding! We are still a "GO" and launch is scheduled for Saturday morning the 20th from my house. Pre-launch arrival and festivities begin on Friday from noon until? Any questions? Let's have 'em.

Only 13 days to go before SMRR I. Getting anxious, anyone? Let's have a soundoff on who is for sure coming. I think I have enough comfortable sleeping arrangements for 7 or 8. That should be enough. Here's the breakdown:2 spots on the six man, family clan, silver-tan, gargantuan divan with ottoman (sofa)2 spots on the bunk beds2 reclining lounge chairs on the back deck1 twin bed on the back porch1 reclining (fairly comfortable heavy duty lawn/camping chair)Plenty of padded/carpted floor for sleeping bags. I have 7 or 8* sleeping bags, too, so unless Drew doesn't have any, you won't need to bring any of those. Probably just a light change of clothes (shorts/flip flops/T-shirt and sweatshirt if it gets chilly. This week it has been down in the 50's and raining and it* snowed yesterday enough to close Sonora Pass. It should be open by the 19th. And something to think about if you haven't already: Let's try and make this a SAFE ride. There were a few mishaps on SLOIII and a really bad one on 5/31 enroute to Running Springs last weekend. The road we're going on over the pass is really nice, smooth has many good sweepers. But it also has some really tight, decreasing radius turns that you can't see around. Concentration, understanding the principle of how to "counter-steer" and brake properly is essential. I'm not trying to talk down to anyone and don't know your riding ability, but as you know, it only takes a second to crash and trash your bike, not to mention get seriously injured or killed. I'd hate to have that happen to anyone, period, but especially on a ride I was hosting. From my experience, showing off, racing, and lack of experience are the most consistant cause of accidents. I've been down and am very luck/blessed that I'm still alive. And of course, there are those four-wheeled kamikazies that want to kill us all. Highway 108 is a tourist corridor and there are lots of* flat-lander tourists on the roads that don't understand motorcycles, how to take a turn in a car, when to brake, how not to tailgate, look for motorcyclists, yieid the right-of-way, or that go too fast or too slow. We'll have time to discuss all this on Friday night around the fire and over a few beers. Again, I'm not trying to lecture anyone, so I hope no one is offended. I have a couple hundred thousand miles on two wheels, have taken several courses/schools, done track days, and even club raced. And I'm still concerned that I'll lose concentration, be tempted to show off or get the urge to race or push the envelope. Let's all keep each other in check and safe. Sound good? So, lets have a head count and start claiming your sleeping arrangements. And that way I'll know how much beer and food to buy before everyone arrives. This should be a great ride and I am soooo ready for it. Looking forward to hanging with you Sactown boys again and spending time with Drew in his neck of the woods.
Let the clock start the countdown!Weeds

I will be meeting you all between Carson and Reno. From there we will decide where to eat and then I'll give you a nice tour up to Suziland. I have a couple of couches, a single matress, and a queen air matress as well as a thousand square feet or so of floor space. In the morning I will lead you all on a ride that will remind you of the goat trail but smoother and no ocean. I will prolly go as far as Oroville, but we'll see...

Drew...have you ever been to the Hot Springs at Markleville? Has anyone?

"When the day is done and you want to warm your muscles, make a 20-minute car jaunt from Hope Valley to Grover Hot Springs, an outdoor heated pool set in a meadow surrounded by 8,000-foot-high peaks. Soak your bones as the steam rises from the spring-fed pool, which reaches 104 degrees. If you prefer the pins-and-needles effect, there's also a cooler swimming pool on-site."

Highway 88 from Jackson (or Stockton farther west) is a great road over the pass to Hope Valley. We've stayed there at Sorenson's Resort (Swedish, I think) for our anniversary. 89 goes from Tahoe south to Hope Valley and joins 89 east to 395. We'll be going there on our way to Carson to meet you. The Hot Springs at Grover is a giant pool of greenish colored mineral water at something like 104 degrees. Only a couple of bucks for a nice relaxing soak. If we had time, I thought it would be a nice diversion to rest the butt cheeks. We're meeting you in Carson City? What time do you think?

So far, Bweiss sounds like the only one really interested. I guess the other guys just aren't man enough for the adventure of it. And I was gonna suggest a trip to Alaska! Fuggedabowdit!

Nevertheless, I'm game. Can't wait. Go by myself if I have to!

I am pretty sure the Sac guys are still in. They just have not checked the thread today.
Just let me know what time you all leave your place in the morning and I will start down south. Carson is 2 hours from my place.
